These shots (kindly snapped by a stranger) were taken on Dec 29th 2024 attempting to capture the joy and exhaustion of 3hrs of surfing clean and empty 4ft First Point Malibu at sunset. Having experienced an injury 364 days prior which necessitated two surgeries and the subsequent fear I had permanently compromised the ability to follow my passion - reconnecting with this break on that day, Pacific Coast Highway and most importantly family and friends in Los Angeles to end ‘24 was gratifying.

Now having witnessed from NYC the tragic loss of life and community in LA and Malibu has been heartbreaking.

Still, having called Los Angeles home previously, the forward image of the rebuilt homes, schools and businesses and the people behind those heroic efforts are what resonate. taken in Malibu, California by @chefpgd
