I’m not Supermom. I just put my kitchen to work. 😂

There are 3 ways to tackle school breakfast and lunch:

1. Sunday prep
2. Night-before prep
3. The “I prepped absolutely NOTHING” morning 😂

This Reel is for number three.

The trick is to cook in parallel and let your equipment work while you work. Rice cooker, air fryer, pressure cooker, stovetop. Everybody has a job.

And don’t limit lunch to the same few meals. I borrow ideas from cuisines all over the world for more flavour, texture and variety.

Yes, there will be dishes. Plenty. 😂

But even with zero prep, breakfast and lunch in under an hour is absolutely doable.

My favourite time-saving kitchen tools are on my Amazon list(link in bio)

20,000 of you are here now! so if you’re new, welcome! and if you still only know me as “the food lady,” pull up a chair. Let me introduce myself properly. 😂

Hi, I’m Sam.

Yes, I’m a chef. But I’m also rooted in faith, family(love them bad), sports-(kinda), dancing-(lovveee but nit teained) , K-dramas, C-dramas🥰, and asking entirely too many questions about absolutely everything.

I love Jamaican food-(stewed peas is my kyptonite) but I’m also obsessed with Chinese and Japanese flavours. And yes, I will happily mash two food cultures together just to see what kind of delicious trouble we can get into.

I care about nourishment, balance and feeding people well… but french fries and ice cream still have rights in this household. Please respect the constitution. 🫣

Career-wise, I’m still figuring out exactly what this thing is becoming. Somewhere between chef, creator, food nerd, media girl and a Caribbean woman building her own little lifestyle empire — one plate, post and plot twist at a time.

Very clear. Very organised. Absolutely under control. 😂

So whether you’re here for the recipes, the random thoughts, family life, the island energy or the chaos, I’m glad you found me.😃

And if you’ve been here from before, tell me what made you follow me in the first place? taken in Kingston, Jamaica by @chefsamanthageorge

Market shopping on a budget? ChatGPT actually came in handy for this one! 😂🥭🍉

This week, I gave myself a tight budget for fruits at Coronation Market. But there was one problem... I didn't have an updated price list!

So I uploaded an old invoice from one of my regular vendors into ChatGPT and asked it to help me plan a $10,000 fruit budget, complete with estimated prices and quantities.

Armed with my list, Darren and I headed to the market! Of course, prices fluctuate, so we had to make a few adjustments along the way.

💡 My tip: Before you go grocery shopping, have a spending plan, not just a shopping list! Even an old invoice can help you estimate costs and make smarter decisions.

Also, can we normalize market vendors sharing weekly price lists on WhatsApp? 👀 Imagine being able to compare prices, place your order and have your fresh produce delivered without leaving home!

Would you use a service like that? And would you like me to share my $10K fruit shopping list?

September was basically me collecting little hacks that made everyday life easier TRUST. I surely needed these and MORE. miss me a bit?? Yea been tired 😂 Anyhow, some saved time, some saved dinner, some saved my hair… and one could literally save your kitchen. 😅

From the oil trick for sticky yam/green plantain residue, my Cantu Weightless Smooth + Hold Gel for quick hair touch-ups, an easy cheesy gnocchi casserole, Bigelow Peak Energy tea for a little caffeine boost, snap-on covers for lunch containers, my glove-compartment emergency stash… plus the proper way to put out an oil fire.

Nothing revolutionary just genuinely useful things I discovered or leaned on this month. Save this one because I know at least ONE of these is going to come in handy. 😂

I basically turned my fridge into an all-inclusive salad bar-ish 😆

One thing I always appreciate at an all-inclusive is the salad bar. Everything is washed, chopped, crisp and ready to go, so why not create the same thing at home?

That’s what sent me looking for these containers.

Now I can prep my lettuce, cabbage, carrots, cucumber and other veg once, then grab what I need for a salad, wrap, bowl or quick stir-fry.

Because if I have to start washing and chopping vegetables from scratch every single day… chances are, it’s not happening-TELL TRUTH. 😂 Having them ready removes that extra step, saves time and makes eating more fibre feel effortless.

The containers are also in my Amazon storefront.

Want the exact ones I bought? Comment SALAD and I’ll send you the Amazon link. taken in Kingston, Jamaica by @chefsamanthageorge

Some Jamaican cooking habits I will respectfully question every single time. 😂🇯🇲

These are 4 little kitchen hills I’m absolutely willing to stand on from how I clean ackee, to how much boiled food I actually cook, to why I refuse to turn fried fish into fish jerky. 😭

And yes… a likkle browning can go in rice and peas. I said what I said.

Now swipe through and tell me:

Which one are you fighting me on? 👀

And more importantly, what Jamaican cooking hill are YOU willing to die on?

Drop it in the comments because I already know we’re going to need a Part 2. 😂

The 5PM Problem, Ep. 2: Flatbread Pizza

When dinner needs to happen fast, this is one of those easy wins.

Spread flatbread with a thin layer of pasta sauce mixed with a little tomato paste. Add cheddar, mozzarella and whatever toppings you have. I used minced sausage, red onion and jalapeños.

Bake at 425°F/220°C for 8–12 minutes until crisp and bubbly.

Don’t overload it, too much sauce or too many toppings can make the flatbread soggy.

20-Minute Shrimp Fried Rice

Ingredients

1 lb shrimp, chopped

3–4 cups cooked, chilled rice

2 tbsp vegetable oil, divided

½ medium red onion, diced

½ cup carrot, small diced

1 cup cabbage, chopped

½ cup minced Korean pork sausage or other cooked pork sausage

2½–3 tbsp soy sauce

1 tsp sesame oil

½ tsp MSG

¼ tsp salt, then adjust to taste

2 scallions, sliced

¼–½ Scotch bonnet or ½ jalapeño, finely chopped, optional

½–1 tsp sugar, optional

Quick method

Cook the shrimp halfway in 1 tbsp oil, then remove. Add the remaining oil and sauté the onion, carrot and cabbage. Add the minced sausage and cook briefly, then add the rice. Season with soy sauce, sesame oil, MSG and salt. Add scallion, pepper and optional sugar. Return the shrimp and toss just until fully cooked.

Yield: about 4 generous servings.

I’d start with 2½ tbsp soy sauce and add the rest only after tasting -the sausage, MSG and soy are all bringing salt and umami, so you don’t want them fighting each other. by @chefsamanthageorge

Top do's and dont's in Negril n St Elizabeth
Notes from our summer vacay before back-to-school

We did the big all-inclusive in Negril, then slowed things right down in St. Elizabeth and somehow, the simpler part of the trip ended up being the most relaxing.

If you’re planning a family getaway for December or next summer, here’s what I’d actually recommend:

🚲 Rent bicycles in Treasure Beach. So much fun as a family and one of our favorite activities. Available at Jakes

🎲 Bring simple games. Who’s Most Likely, This or That, How Well Do You Know Mom & Dad and we also brought our Not Just Sundays Christian conversation cards. Other faves are Exploding Kittens and Last Word

👨‍👩‍👦 Travel with another couple whose family you genuinely enjoy. Take turns with the kids so one couple gets a little alone time, then swap. Everybody wins. 😂❤️

🐟 Little Ochie YES. Good seafood, well cooked and worth the drive.

🍉 And buy watermelon in St. Elizabeth! Sweet, juicy and ridiculously good.

🎬 Check Jack Sprat for movie nights while you’re in the area.

🏡 Majestic Heights was our sleeper hit. Affordable Airbnb, clean, comfortable, breakfast included, amazing sea views, lively mornings with resident cook Ms. Betty, plus a movie room with a microwave for popcorn and a lobely pool and games room for the kids.

🚤 Pelican Bar? Price it first. For our group of 9, we were looking at around J$50K just for the boat ride before food and drinks, so we skipped it. For a couple, maybe. For a big family not so worth it.

The biggest surprise?

After the huge resort with more food, more people, more walking and more everything… the smaller stay felt calmer and more rewarding.

Less excess. Less mistakes, Less rushing. More connection.

That ended up being the real win of the trip. ❤️

Save this for December, next summer or your next family road trip. by @chefsamanthageorge
