I always enjoy @carliewalkerauthor books and this one didn’t disappoint. It was an easy and quick read that kept me on my toes to discover what crazy thing would happen next. I found this book on some list of best books or something like that. Honestly I don’t remember because the last few weeks have been a blur. Needless to say, it’s a book about two people who have each lost their spouse and how they find each other and navigate grief. I wasn’t sure about this book since I am navigating grief at the loss of my mom in December. I thought it would be too hard, too painful to read about loss, but honestly this book is hysterical. I have laughed so much and I’m barely halfway through. While my grief is different than the loss of a spouse, there are a lot of similarities. I can’t wait to see what happens with Grace and Henry, but for now I’m enjoying a story that makes me laugh. #bookstagram #grief #loss #grieveandlaugh #booksthatmakeyoucry by @cheintz68

I read @laynefargo last year and was excited to start her new book. This book captured my attention right away and I was drawn into the story of Katarina and Heath but I could never have anticipated where this story would go or my feelings about it. At times I loved it and at other times I wanted to put it down. I wanted to hate certain characters only to realize that they weren’t so bad. This was definitely an emotional roller coaster not only for me but the characters as well. When I started this book, I was excited about a strong willed female character who stood up for herself against chauvinistic bosses. She quit her job and was determined to pursue her all idea on her own. Enter her former high a school crush as her mentor, who has his own relationship issues, and she turns into an insecure, second guessing a school girl. While the story is good and highlights women in tech, there were parts that I felt took aware from the strong female lead. There a few twists and turns that are surprising And add depth but I ended this book feeling less excited and more just wanting to be finished. #reading #startedgood #bookstagram #bookaweek by @cheintz68

Looks like #theguncle will be my last book in 2024. My goal was to read 50 books this year, but I fell a little short and this will be number 35. Still better than 2023! So far @mrstevenrowley has entertained me, made me laugh, and also made me sad and I’m barely 70 pages in. I am just starting @lisampresley memoir. I’ve said before that I don’t normally read memoir’s and I’m proving myself wrong. This is my second memoir in as many months. I saw @rileykeough interview about the experience of writing the book and bought it immediately. Lisa Marie would be my age today and I think of all the things she will miss and how young she was. I know it’s going to be an emotional roller coaster. I already got teary-eyed in the preface. I’ve been watching @inagarten for many years and over time I have come to love and enjoy her shows. I have one of her cookbooks and make many of her recipes. So when I saw that she had a memoir coming out, I ordered it. I don’t read a lot of memoirs so it’s unusual that I wanted to read this one. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this was so much better than I could have imagine. The book takes you in an inspiring journey of her life mostly starting when she met Jeffrey to today. There were so many surprises and interesting tidbits - self doubt, self discovery, challenges, joy, love - everything. I think what struck me most about this book is how down to earth she is and how devoted she is to getting her recipes, cookbooks, TV show and renovations just right. She has a vision and she sticks to her guns until she makes it happen.
