Hello, I’m Chele and I want to open this page to share with you much more about who I am.

Everybody knows me as Chef Chele Gonzalez, but actually, I’m a professional DJ since 1997, and my relationship with electronic music started in the early 90’s.

So it’s very much part of myself. It’s also an art expression, and it’s very important in my life.
I want to take this page as an opportunity to share with you what I know, what I like, how I understand electronic music, how many things are around, and how wide and deep it can be.

It’s official. MEDIUM RARE OFF AIR × DISKOTEKA RADIO is happening October 17 🔴.

We’re taking over GotSoul MNL and reshaping it for the night into 3 rooms featuring 11 DJs playing over 11 hours of blissful dance music 🔊🪩 all built together by two collectives that have long yearned to enliven this synergy.

🚪 Doors open at 5PM, so come early. GotSoul’s kitchen will be serving à la carte from 5–8PM 🍽️ and in true Medium Rare fashion, expect something delicious to make its way around the dance floor later in the night. Dancing burns calories. We take responsibility. 😏

🎟️ Early Bird tickets are extremely limited, and there’s a very real chance we won’t have tickets left at the door. If you know you’re coming, don’t leave it til the last minute.

Something new is coming 🤩

On October 17, Medium Rare introduces OFF AIR, our new format built around live-recorded DJ sets, capturing not only the music but the dance floor and the people who make the night what it is.

And for the very first one, we’re doing it with our friends at DISKOTEKA Radio.

DISKOTEKA has been bringing their parties to YouTube through full recorded DJ sets, and we’re excited to join forces and bring this format into the world of Medium Rare.

But this collaboration is about more than the format.

We’ve been showing up for each other for years, dancing at each other’s parties, supporting each other’s projects and sharing the same love for Manila’s electronic music community.

We believe the scene grows when we show up for each other.

So this time, instead of meeting on each other’s dance floors, we’re building one together.

On October 17, Got Soul transforms into our club for the night, with the music and dance floor captured live to become part of the first Medium Rare OFF AIR recording.

🔥 SIMON – FREE AT LAST 🔥

Released in 2000 on Future Dreams, Free At Last takes me straight back to the peak of the San Francisco and West Coast house movement, a beautiful era that I was fortunate enough to experience firsthand.

I was living in the US in 1998 and 1999, very close to San Francisco, and had the opportunity to be part of those amazing times. The energy, the music, the records, the clubs… it was something truly special.

I’ve already shared one of my all-time favourite and iconic DJs from that scene, @garthhound , and Simon was also producing for Grayhound Records, another important name from that West Coast sound.

This particular track, Free At Last, was an absolute dancefloor banger. It always had the power to set the floor on fire 🔥 especially those unique crash explosions, the tension of the build-up, and then the drop accompanied by the powerful speech of Martin Luther King Jr. It was such a special and emotional combination.

I’m excited to share more records from my West Coast collection , records that deserve to be remembered and celebrated. ❤️ by @chelemusik

Aril Brikha – “Groove La Chord” | Fragile Records / Transmat Detroit, 1998

Not much to say about this one. A legendary track that helped define the Detroit sound.

This is a record that is history. A record I’ve danced to and let myself get lost in on the dancefloor unlimited times. A record I’ve been playing in my sets since the ’90s, and one that never fails to find its way into my bag.

What makes it even more interesting is that Aril Brikha is originally from Iran, yet his music became deeply connected with the Detroit techno through Fragile Records under Trasmat.

For me, “Groove La Chord” sits in that sweet spot between house and techno. Deep, hypnotic, emotional, atmospheric, progressive and timeless.

Definitely one of those records that helped shape the history of electronic music and one that still feels just as powerful on the dancefloor today.

Beautiful night at Onokai last Friday, September 11, playing vinyl among my dear friends Manolet, Dario, and Dee Dario — the Darios. 🤟🏼❤️‍🔥
Life is simple, and it’s the simple things that make it more beautiful.
Friends came together, sharing a passion and love for music, beautiful wine, and genuine connection. I went home full of gratitude, carrying with me so many beautiful moments and memories.

We shared the night among different DJs, and I had the pleasure of opening with an incredible selection of deep house, flowing into disco and electronic funk tunes, before jamming at the peak of the night with some German minimal house, acid house, and underground tech house.

I’ll leave this video here as a little capture of those priceless moments. 🙌🏼🤍

Fresh arrivals from Spain, from my dear friend @pablo_bolivar who put together a vinyl selection full of amazing German and mostly European productions #🫠🙌🏼🙌🏼

So many jewels in this package, from classic AphexTwin to one of my favourite labels right now, PHONOGRAMME, with productions from Vakula and Nacho Marco; the legendary Lance Desardi, who is back on track producing again; and a reissue of Gettin Lifted from 1996, released by the Berlin label Pariter. I have the original copy back in Spain, and I’ve played it so many times over the years.

And, of course, many other beautiful German productions. Love to keep my European background in my sound.

But the absolute highlight for me is Kenneth Graham, “In this house”. this one comes from Pablo Bolivar’s own label, Seven Villas. ❤️

Thank you, Pablo, for this amazing selection. So many treasures to discover and play 🎧

My happy place 🙌🏼❤️‍🔥

Something very exciting for me that I’ve been working on for the past few months: my home studio.

This is so much more than just a room with music gear. It’s a space where I can truly connect with my vinyl, my passion, and something that has always been deeply soulful for me.

I’ve been collecting and buying vinyl since the ’90s, and my collection has grown into thousands of records. A big part of it is still in Spain, and I definitely miss those records, especially the ones I brought with me from Spain. Over the years, I’ve organized my collection in many different ways, with everything from soulful house, funk and soul to classics, deep house, minimal, disco house, and so much more.

There are compilations and albums from artists like Moodymann and Kruder & Dorfmeister, alongside many other records that carry memories and stories of different moments in my life.

Part of my collection is also at GotSoul Hi-Fi Bar, while this is the part that has found its home here with me.

And then there’s the gear… 🤟🏼

I’m so happy with my two Technics SL-1200MK2Ds from Japan and the Pioneer CDJ-3000X. The speakers are ADAM Audio from Germany, absolutely amazing quality, and somehow you can enjoy all that sound without disturbing the neighbors… haha. 😎

And this mixer… ARS.
It’s not just a mixer. It’s jewelry. ❤️‍🔥

The full setup is finally here at home, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier.

Music, vinyl, memories, and a space that feels completely mine.
