I truly felt on top of the world in this moment! Sharing a stage with @kaskade was so incredible, but getting to do it in a beautiful century-old theater made it even better. We got to watch Busta Rhymes perform his set as well, what a rad experience. ✨️🎭

I feel like the aerial clown has become my niche, and I'm not mad about it 🤡

My idea to combine clowning with aerials started with the preparations for my first aerial silks performance in 2019.
I had been doing lyra for quite a few years already, but the silks were a totally different beast to train, and I was struggling to feel graceful in the air. As I slid to the ground in a tangled heap of fabrics for the tenth time one day, I had an "aha" moment. What better space for a clown than here?

Clowns make an art out of attempting to complete "impossible" tasks. They are the masters of failure! Just like the ancient Japanese custom of adding gold to the cracks of vases instead of repairing them, they highlight the failures and show us the beauty of them. Clowns are perfectly imperfect. Just like us humans!

So let the spirit of the clown allow you to embrace and laugh at your failures and shortcomings. Because they are part of what makes you, you!

This was only my second year being a part of Same Same But Different Festival, but it already feels like home.🥰

I got the opportunity to share more of my skills this time around, and had an absolute blast doing it! The theme of The But area this year was the golden age of Hollywood and it was right up my alley!
I did a tinman/Wizard of Oz inspired hoop act in the Cornhub show on Saturday. The story of that act was about transformation and the freedom to evolve into your true self. And on Sunday @noctemflou and I did a clown feather fan duo in the Butwood Noir show. The lesson/theme there was to enjoy the journey and remember not to take yourself too seriously.

It's hard to describe how full my heart felt leaving this festival. Got the chance to bond more deeply with more of the clown crew and I'm just so incredibly inspired by the skill and dedication of each one of these performers. It's such an honor to be a part of a team that really cares and strives to create a unique, memorable experience for every single person who attends this festival. Big love to my clown sis @miss_ma.riah_ for bringing me into the fold and being the best clown wrangler this side of the Mississippi! 🤡

I remember how life changing my first festival was in 2011; art, nature, love and incredible creativity and expression everywhere! People actually looking you in the eye and talking to you and happy to be there. So different from the disconnection we encounter in most of our daily lives at work or in public. I don't take for granted for a moment what a dream come true it is to be a part of festivals now and helping to spread that same joy and inspiration to every attendee I encounter! "The Good, The But and The Ugly" was a rootin' tootin' good time at the But Cinema. Friday at @ssbdfest was pretty hot, and I had leather chaps to sweat in for this spaghetti western show directed by @jillybeanz_ ! 🥵🤠🤡

It was an interactive show with games and lots of audience participation. We had some good ol' fashion staring contests, a couple shootouts, hobby horse riding, and much more! We ended it all with line dancing (clown style) lead by @noctemflou

I could seriously gush all day about how much I love and respect this crew of clowns. Everyone came with their unique skills, and we truly created magic for the festival goers (and us) to enjoy.

Turning my passion into my career has been quite a journey! Even after doing circus for 16 years, I still (like so many of us) struggle with imposter syndrome.

It takes genuine discipline and self-compassion to quiet that critical inner monologue. You know the voice: the one telling you that you aren't good enough, that you should have stayed home, or that you should just quit something you love before you embarrass yourself.

We all have it. That voice, which is so often a weapon we turn against ourselves, can also be a tool. The inner critic actually has a purpose. It is not ill-intentioned; it is the voice of your fear and it's trying to protect you from physical or emotional pain.

As the saying goes, "Don't let the fear of falling keep you from flying." But what if you haven't quite learned to fly on your own yet? Then that fear is logical, and it is keeping you safe while you build strength. Even after we learn to fly, mistakes happen and we can still fall. The real growth comes from knowing when to thank that inner voice for trying to protect you, and when to tune it out and trust yourself enough to take the leap anyway.

Double Salto Star aerial silks tutorial!
Like 👍 Save ✅️ Tag your aerial friends!

If you can do a double star, you're ready for this variation!
This drop starts with an S-wrap. Keep in mind that there are many entries to an S-wrap. This just happens to be my favorite one, but you can use any one you'd like. Just as long as the tail is behind your back before you proceed to wrap your leg.
You need a good amount of height for this one, so be safe out there y'all!

Forever improving my Rocket Drop / Tornado Spin! Here is a tutorial if you’re ready to try it! If you have technique questions, drop 'em in the comments below.

This has truly become my favorite movement to train on the silks, it is so incredibly fun. Nothing forces you to be present and fully in your body like a fast, centered spin!

It definitely isn't perfect yet, my back is still arching a bit and it could be faster. But as with learning any art-form, we must find joy in every step of the process, including (especially) the ugly parts or imperfections. Making art has endless lessons for life!

Big shout out to @hannahtuxbury for giving me some really helpful pointers on this technique-heavy spin.

A little behind-the-scenes pink perfection! 🦩✨ I had the absolute pleasure of doing the makeup for this unique flamingo stilt character I got to play last month. All the creative genius behind this look is credited to @umbrellaship

This was my first time doing puppet work in an official capacity, and I absolutely loved it. It allowed me the opportunity to bring not just one character to life, but two!
Perhaps the most gorgeous and elaborate costume I have ever had the honor of wearing in my whole career.🤩 And I got to share the experience with a friend, which made it even better👯‍♂️
Definitely one for the books, thank you for bringing me in @miss_ma.riah_
