⏩️⏩️ 4 months of Mizz Z!

During pregnancy and postpartum, the brain undergoes wildly significant changes- more than puberty 🤯

During infancy, the brain creates synapses between neurons at a faster rate than any other time.

We both, mother and daughter- works of art in progress, both functioning as both the artists and the art creating each other anew. Both being sculpted into something unprecedented, one nursing session and one woods walk and one tantrum and one early morning at a time.

Fitting, in unprecedented times.

Each in our revolutions and evolutions, so deep and just begun. This summer I am feeling so lucky to be held in our home and garden in the woods as we are being braided into each other and into this wild, precious, unfathomable earth 🪻🪺 🌳 🌲 🌳 🌱 🌻 🦪 🌊

Dear world,

She’s here! A month ago today Zea May (pronounced Zay-ah) joined us.

Born at home under a full moon after 50 hours of labor, at 9 lb 5 oz and 22 inches, this little one’s got a lot of magic.

It certainly takes a village- deeply grateful to our community who has been so loving and supportive, with baby showers, with meal train, with gifts and kind words and advice and unloading the dishwasher and wildly beautiful care throughout these brilliant and rigorous early days 💐 taken in Martha's Vineyard by @chelseamornings

Thank you all for the beautiful birthday wishes 🙏🏻

I am so grateful to know and love so many of you, and to be known and loved by so many of you. Whether for a season or a lifetime.

A lot of beauty in my last year.

I did karaoke in 5 US states and 2 countries, spent time in 6 countries, and grew over 100 pounds of tomatoes🍅 , some #killerstats.

I re-learned (and imagine I’ll keep re-learning) how beauty can be a carving out. A carving out of old habits and beliefs and stuff to make space. A carving out of things once cherished that no longer fit. A carving into the bedrock below to create a deeper space with an even stronger foundation.

Sometimes that doesn’t feel like beauty in the moment. At least- doesn’t feel like the kind of beauty that bubbles on the tongue and dances in the sunlight. A bloodier kind of beauty. Some days that beauty made me lie prostrate, praying for help. And a hope to understand the help in whatever form it comes.

I was reminded- that bloodier beauty that makes us bigger than ourselves- connects us with the great mystery from which we came and which is always available. The bubbles on the tongue beauty is alluring, important and in some moments true.

However it’s the bloody beauty that roots us back into the earth. Into the truth in both our humility, that we were once and will one day again be the humus, the soil; and our power, that we are a critical and unique part of the everything.

I needed a lot of help this year. And a lot of help was given. And I learned (again, and again, and will likely forget and need to learn again) that in asking for and receiving that help, in allowing that help, I am more whole. More myself.

A lot of beauty this year.

Thank you for being a part of my life, and virtually celebrating this new year with me. For reflecting back to me such beauty and for being you.

Who’s better than @rebecca_scheckman ?!?

Really tho.

This gang met at a coworking space in NYC, the Centre for Social Innovation, almost ten (!!!!) years ago.

To get to celebrate this woman and this love and reunion with these beloveds by the autumn sea…

well it’s simply the best.

Still freaked out by social media 🫠 Ongoing.

Also- today’s way to kneel and kiss the summer ground in these final fleeting days ☀️

And offer some sweet lil e-kisses to the people and places and soils and oceans that made my August somethin deep.

These are some hard weird times as a planet. Climate volatility is increasingly loud. Uncertainty roots.

And yet…

there’s a delicious plate of food with an old friend.

There’s a sunset on the beach.

Theres soil that still yields a harvest to nourish us.

There’s a miracle that grows from a tiny seed.

There’s color applied to a canvas.

There’s people making freaking music.
