Last mini of the bunch!

I worked on this one for longer than I care to admit using tiny brushes for all that detail.

When I was standing in this spot,I was completely absorbed in the tangled beach roses and all the subtle shifts of green, when I finally looked up I noticed the tiniest white cottage tucked away in the distance and I knew I had to paint it!

This one will be available, framed, at the Ocean Grove Summer Stroll on the new raindate July 25th 4–8 PM. I’d love to see you there. by @chelseavillegasart

A little break from sharing the minis for this larger 24” × 24” seascape.

I was wandering the beach, completely distracted by the beautiful smooth stones scattered along the shore, when the sky suddenly opened up. I didn’t get a chance to explore as much as I’d hoped, but I managed to snap a few reference photos before getting completely soaked.

As I painted it, I realized those rocks and pebbles were the missing ingredient in my seascapes. I love the texture, rhythm, and soft color they bring to the piece. Swipe for the details! by @chelseavillegasart

I woke before dawn and rode my bike several miles toward the North Light, hoping to catch the sunrise. A steady drizzle and thick fog hid the horizon, and by the time I arrived dawn had already passed but the fog had its own beauty, softening the empty roads and wild fields into something dreamy and mysterious.

As I made my way back, the mist slowly lifted, revealing an impossibly crystalline blue sky washed in warm morning light. I stopped at a labyrinth carved into a field, and just beyond it discovered this little house perched on a hill, looking out over the sea.

I live for these small unexpected discoveries when I’m out and about, whether I’m traveling or wandering through a familiar setting. They keep the world feeling fresh and full of wonder.

I had no idea there were so many ponds scattered throughout Block Island. This one sat just behind the bed and breakfast where I stayed, surrounded by lush summer flowers, tall grasses, birds, turtles, and the ocean just beyond.

It was cloudy and rainy for much of my trip, so the moon is an artistic embellishment but it feels like it belongs there, and I’m sure it’s a view that’s graced the island on many evenings.

One of my favorite things about working this small is that you can still zoom in and discover layers of texture and little details. Swipe to 👀

Can I just travel and paint miniature forever?? Only kinda sorta kidding.

My love of all things tiny is definitely having its moment right now. The frames are on the way, and I can’t wait to see these little paintings all dressed up.

This one is inspired by the view from Mohegan Bluffs on Block Island. It might be the island’s most iconic spot. Standing at the top, it feels more like California than New England. The trek down (and especially back up!) is a workout, but those hundreds of steps make the experience even more rewarding.

I didn’t expect to enjoy working this small! I’ve painted 4”×4” encaustic pieces before, but this is my first time working at such a diminutive scale with oils, and I’m having so much fun with all the tiny details.
I’m still debating what to call this series...Tiny Travels? Coastal Keepsakes? Little Landscapes? Whatever the name ends up being, I’m excited to keep creating them as a little painted travel log, a way to quickly document the places that capture my attention and preserve the feeling of being there.

The first collection will be available at the Summer Stroll in Ocean Grove on Saturday, July 18, from 4–8 p.m. I’ll be set up in front of the old Kearny Bank. I hope you’ll stop by and say hello! by @chelseavillegasart

Block Island beauty, part 2.
Choosing from the hundreds of photos I took wasn’t easy. I went into this trip knowing it was all about gathering reference material, so I tried to cover as much of the island as possible in just a few short days, photographing everything that caught my eye. Without a car, I explored by bike and on foot, heading out at 5 a.m. each morning and staying out until evening, only calling it a day when the rain finally forced me back inside. By the time I made the traffic-filled drive home, I was so sore I almost had to crawl into the house.

The Sea Breeze Inn was the perfect place to stay! I’m still thinking about the delicious breakfast delivered in a picnic basket to my porch each morning.

Beyond the miles I covered, I spent a lot of time journaling, observing, and thinking about how I want to translate what I experienced into my work. This time away was just what I needed to work out the next direction I want to explore.

I’m off for a little more beach time with my family, but when I get back it’ll be full days in the studio. I have a feeling I’ll be painting from this trip for months to come! by @chelseavillegasart
