hey everyone, it’s that time: my birthday, where i take my annual photo booth photos. and of course it coincides with mental health awareness month. if you know me personally, that likely means you know that this year’s birthday has looked a little different, as i’ve been struggling deeply with my mental health. despite the kindness of all of my friends and major support all around, i’ve made the difficult decision to check myself in to an inpatient mental health program out in the mountains to really do the work to start getting my life back on track. i leave later today.

i know this is normally something people would be ashamed to admit, and, honestly, part of me IS scared to share this because i do believe it could make me seem “crazy” or “weak”. but the reality is that i’ve been suffering with some dark demons for a long time, and i’ve been able to shove them down. but they’re back with a vengeance and clawing at the surface, turning the lovely person you all know and love into a shell of who they really are. it turns out facing your demons isn’t weak at all; it’s actually incredibly brave. to end the stigma, i’ve gotta be the stigma: so here i am, the face of mental health awareness! smiling outwardly, loved and cherished by many, but deeply struggling under the surface. by @chelseyray
