【僵尸姐妹】Jiang Shi Sisters - 【雪梅】Xue Mei & 【月灵】 Yue Ling

These twin sisters are based on Jiang Shi - Stiff Hopping Corpses from Chinese mythology. They were created over the course of 2 months for the @creepy.gals Bloodlines show at @superchiefgalleryla ! I loved being pushed out of my comfort zone with the color palette and I’m really happy with how these ladies turned out

They are fully posable 1/4 scale hand sculpted resin ball jointed dolls with custom resin eyes; handmade costumes and hand painted details.

They feature chinese brocade fabrics and intricate lace up costume pieces inspired by Qing Dynasty costuming.

See you tomorrow at the @creepydollzmarket Yokai Bash Pop Up Market in Little Tokyo! In addition to some dolls, prints and keychains, I have new candles I made just for this pop up.

I will have a very limited number of these 9 inch tall Yokai Pin Up Candles. They’re both fresh citrus scents - Yuzu and Cedarwood, and painted with wax candle paints.

The piece on the left is inspired by Ohaguro Bettari (Nothing but Blackened Teeth) and the piece on the right is inspired by Rokurokubi (Pulley Neck)

After the market they’ll be up on my store - made to order.

Super exciting news!

I’ve been hard at work at improving a lot of things about the Cheng Doll. I think I’m on version 7 now? But I think I’m getting closer to being happy with her.

As always everything is hand sculpted 🫶

I’m changing the old Head and Headcap to a faceplate version where the back will be compatible with the other faces to make changing/repositioning eyes much easier. Making other minor changes like detail and symmetry on the ears.

I’m also making big changes to the jointed hip and hip joints + thighs. Still in the sanding phase so hopefully I can mold all these parts soon 🖤

New wig came in today so I wanted to try it out on one of my girls

She’s a version 2 Cheng Doll so one of the first I cast. Her joints are rough and I’ve made many changes since but I love her sleeping face.

I’ll bring back the closed eye/sleeping options once I make the changes to the heads I’ve been working on! 🫶

Chang’E (嫦娥）Goddess of the Moon

Throwback to this display piece I made in 2021. This Chang’E piece took me about 2.5 months to complete! This was the first time I decided to try sculpting everything from scratch. Up until this point I had been customizing dolls. Now I sculpt all my ball jointed dolls from scratch!

This was definitely a huge challenge for me and took me out of my comfort zone because I had to relearn how to work with polymer clays and clear/UV resin can be very unforgiving as a medium.

Overall I’m extremely pleased with how the piece turned out and I absolutely loved what I was able to do with it. I’ve been really into full diorama pieces because I love that all the elements come together and present a visual narrative to the viewer.

For those unfamiliar with Chang’E, she’s the Moon Goddess in Chinese mythology and there are several variations to her story. The one I grew up on as a kid, she was married to Hou Yi （后羿）an archer who shot down 9 of the 10 suns that were scorching the earth. In honor of his heroic deed, the goddess Xiwangmu (西王母) gave him an elixir of immortality, a prize typically reserved for immortals who had achieved enlightenment.

Unfortunately the elixir was only enough for one person and Hou Yi didn’t want to live forever without his wife so he hid it. Chang’E found the elixir and in her selfishness, drank it all and ascended to the moon. She would live forever on the moon with a rabbit as her only companion.

The final piece went through quite a few changes from my original concept sketch but in essence I think it captured what I envisioned

Growing up on Chinese myths and being able to put that into my artwork as an adult has really helped me connect with my inner child and it reminds me of the times my family would gather at my grandmother’s during the Mid Autumn festival and have tea and mooncakes and gaze at the moon.

Teaser of these Yokai inspired pin up sculpts I’m working on for the Yokai themed @creepydollzmarket pop up on October 3rd !

I’ll be making these into scented candles but also planning to do a limited run of resin busts. The scented candles will be Cedar and Yuzu scented!
