Swiss guitarist Louis Matute releases “The World Is Stable Now” today on Cheptel Records, on vinyl and digital. The ten tracks were improvised over a five-day session built around bassist and sound engineer Robin Girod, pianist Andrew Audiger and percussionist Valentin Liechti, starting from themes Matute had sketched in a notebook over two afternoons.

Every take was recorded live without overdubs, then run through an old Tascam tape machine, slowed down, transferred to cassette and brought back into the computer, giving the album its ambient textures.

The record draws on Italo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities,” in which an emperor sends Marco Polo to survey the world’s great cities. Its title nods to Basquiat and Al Diaz’s SAMO graffiti and to a line from Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World.” It follows “Our Folklore” and “Small Variations From The Previous Day.” by @cheptel_records

Une affirmation ? Une question ? Le titre qui donne son nom au nouvel album « solo » de Louis Matute reste toujours collaboratif.
Une composition fleuve et soignée. Dans la pure tradition des production Cheptelienne où les accidents sont comme les cailloux du Petit Poucet et permettent au morceau de retrouver son chemin ! Et d’intégrer les amis rencontré en route.

Here is the first single, 𝐌é𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞, from the upcoming album 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑰𝒔 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑵𝒐𝒘, out on Cheptel Records on October 16th.

This open one-week studio laboratory, which took place in January 2025, gave birth to an album that explores a much more intimate and vulnerable aspect of the music I’ve been making.

Swiss-Honduran guitarist and composer @louis.matute has announced his upcoming studio album, The World Is Stable Now, dropping October 16, 2026, on vinyl and digital via @cheptel_records.

Recorded live over five days with a core ensemble including Robin Girod, Andrew Audiger, and Valentin Liechti, the album prioritizes spontaneous improvisation over strict arrangements. Matute weaves floating acoustic and electric guitar arpeggios into ambient tape textures,routing tracks through a vintage Tascam recorder and pitch-shifting cassettes for a raw, cinematic atmosphere echoing Jim Jarmusch and David Lynch. Drawing conceptual depth from Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, SAMO tags, and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, the 10-track record pairs world anxieties with luminous melodies, wrapped in cover art by Josune Delgado. by @cheptel_records

Il y a quelque chose d’illuminé dans le nouveau disque de Louis Matute. Quelque chose de libre, de bricolé, d’élégant et légèrement subversif.
Des guitares qui flottent, des bandes qu’on ralentit, des cassettes qu’on maltraite, des accidents qu’on garde, des amis qui improvisent et des morceaux qui semblent parfois avoir été enregistrés dans un rêve un peu louche. Une musique lumineuse traversée par l’inquiétude du monde, les monuments brutalistes, Myasaki ... une musique qui préfère chercher des chemins de traverse plutôt que de savoir exactement où elle va.
Ça ne ressemble peut-être pas tout à fait à ce qu’on imagine être un disque Cheptel. Mais au fond, les musiques qu’on aime finissent toujours par se croiser quelque part.
On est 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 à l’idée de sortir ce disque étrange et magnifique de Louis Matute.

Dévoilant par la même occasion l’œuvre de l’artiste espagnole Josune Delgado

There’s something enlightening about Louis Matute’s new album. Something free, DIY, elegant, and slightly risqué.
Floating guitars, slowed-down tapes, abused cassettes, accidental sounds left intact, friends improvising, and tracks that sometimes seem to have been recorded in a slightly bizarre dream. Luminous music permeated by the world’s anxieties, Brutalist monuments, Myasaki... music that prefers to take the road less traveled rather than knowing exactly where it’s going.
It might not quite resemble what you’d imagine a Cheptel record to be. But deep down, the music we love always ends up intersecting somewhere.
We’re 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 about the idea of releasing this strange and magnificent record by Louis Matute.
