the birth of an idea

2026, wax, metal, photographic print

final project - integrative studio 2

for this project, i wanted to capture how emptiness acts as a repository of potential, caught within the transitory moment between formation and resolution. i drew parallels between the changing states of wax; transformation between gas and liquid and solid, like condensation, like myofascia, like nebulae. the surface of the wax reflects the universality of such a suspended state, holding the memory of heat. derived from crude oils, the use of paraffin wax equally illuminates the invisible lives of whatever carbon based organisms each pellet once took the form of. once perceived, twice felt, an invisible history drives potential for meaning to be generated once more, as material acts as a blank slate, but also as a gallery of lives lived and yet to be lived. by @chercher444

wings of unflight

2025, wood, muslin, deadstock lace, nuts & bolts

collaborative assignment for wearable sculpture - space materiality project 4 (with meeshaa and maria)

it is impossible for humans to fly. neither with the most perfectly engineered wings, nor in myths; when icarus managed to overcome this, he fell because he flew too close to the sun. perhaps there is a reason why humans are biologically prohibited from flying, with or without wings. we were interested in investigating the mechanisms involved in constructing wings, all the while exploring the tug between human ambition and limitation, using wings as a symbol of this conflict. they are also symbolic of freedom, and by experimenting with motifs of damage, we reveal the cost of freedom which comes with pushing the boundaries of human limitation. the trajectory of our project paralleled this as well; like a double journey, we push through trial and error and ultimately disassemble the sculpture. thus, our project questions: is a moment of liberation from human limitations worth the consequences and the costs, leading up to the moment as well as the fall? by @chercher444

cuntomorph

2025, multimedia (liquid latex, clay, pipes, gouache, airbrush, etc.)

collaborative assignment for remake (with delfin) - integrative studio project 4

An installation depicting a mutilated human/alien figure on a surgical bed. Drawing inspiration from H.R. Giger’s creature design in Alien (1979) and the narrative premise of Splice (2009), in which an alien is raised as a human child, our project seeks to invert this dynamic by conceptualising and producing a sculpture that envisions a human raised as an alien. We remade his sculpture Necronom (Alien III) (2005), derived from the Xenomorph Giger invented for the 1979 movie.

Placing the sculpture on a surgical bed with ‘surgical tools’ which we used in our process meant staging the human as the product of an extraterrestrial, hybridising mutilation. Thus, the work confronts the viewer with an uncanny intimacy, where identity is no longer something lost to hostile external pressures but something continuously re-authored through entanglement with non-human systems. The result is a speculative portrait of humanity in which the processes that once symbolised dehumanisation instead become self-perpetuated. by @chercher444

reality

2025, oil on multi-technique paper

assignment for the prompt ‘reality’ - drawing/imaging final outcome

The word ‘reality’ immediately evokes connotations of the mundane and the tangible, which I believed translates best into still life paintings. I wanted to capture different aspects in observation of reality: the immediacy, the vibrancy, the excitement which, paradoxically, overshadows the mundane connotations of reality. We will never be able to see things as they truly are, and thus ‘reality’ is held differently by each person. To me, objects ground us through their quiet, delicate yet immense beauty, should we sit a little longer and regard their intricacies a little closer. By exaggerating the hues and saturation of each object, and by zooming and overlaying the details of a fig which can only be seen upon thorough observation, I wanted to show the way I unpack parts of objects which make them real to me. by @chercher444

2025, cardboard box

assignment for augmented object - space materiality project 2

the goal of this project was to ‘augment’ a discarded object, and i transformed a cardboard box into a a miniature chair set, using only thread and push pins as attachments for each piece. initially drawing inspiration from miniature furniture sets from vitra, i later reference nathalie du pasquier for her dual-function table set sculptures, to parallel the circularity in recycling cardboard. by @chercher444

limbo exists beneath the passages

2025, gouache on card

assignment for subjective geography - integrative studio project 1

inspired by the situationists’ idea of the dérive, which emphasised discovery through spontaneous and playful experiences within urban landscapes, the goal of the project was to create a psychogeographic map based on a class trip to the palais royal. by @chercher444
