Meet the cast and creatives of 'The Prayer of St June'

Women in the Now.
Monday 1st June at 7pm.

Wendy Young is a performer, writer, DJ and published Poet. Wendy recently released her debut album of poetry and music ‘Passing for Human’ on Bandcamp #miserywithoomph. She presents and produces a weekly poetry and music show on K2K Radio. Wendy performed in Gut Reaction's original tour of 'Respecting Your Piers' by Peter Quilter and Colon to Cosmos (Epic Minds) at Jackson's Lane. Wendy also writes and performs with The MamaQuilla Initiative led by Kay Adshead shows include The Pangolin Project and Crossing No Man’s Land. Wendy is currently part of the Our Right to Thrive project with Disability Arts Online and Kamitan Arts @miserywithoomph

Cherie Hughes is a Lived Experience Practitioner and Theatre Specialist working within mental health. In 2017, she was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award by the Lord Mayor of Southwark for her theatre work with vulnerable young people at The Bethlem and Maudsley Hospital School. In 2019 She received mentorship at the National Theatre with Chris Bush, focusing on script development and story which led to her Co-founding Bespoken Theatre which aims to tell the unheard voices of Herstory.
Her debut play ‘Ordinary' (England’s last Witch) was nominated for a Glitch award in 2025 for The Lambeth Fringe. Cherie also writes and performs regularly with The Mama Quilla Initiative and Spectrum Theatre Company. @cherie.hp

Introducing 'The Prayer of St June' by @cherie.hp @bespokentheatre

ST JUNE asks what it means to choose life, and refuse silence, in modern Britain.
Blending political rage and myth, ST JUNE reflects on a life shaped by strikes, hunger, resistance, faith, and 80s pop culture.
Now, in 2026, June finds herself living in a country where the right to protest is increasingly feared, controlled, and criminalised.
Emboldened by visions of holy icons and public spectacle, she fights to hold onto humanity as the warrior within her rises once more.
