"I honestly thought my odd little story wouldn't get pass the application stage. But I'm more than happy to be wrong. Thank you to everyone who believed in this offbeat tale and saw the beauty behind this 700ft of incredible engineering. Let's just hope that @wilsonparkingaus finally gets it running again" - Lindsey Vassallo

🎨🖌️Finally finished my first entry into a zine series I'm hoping to make called 𝑩𝒊𝒕-𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕 𝑪𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔. It will be a series shining a light on actors in films and television who are relegated to bit roles, extras or highly obscure projects.

🖻This portrait is of 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐝. Whilst a landscaper in his daily life, he was a part-time actor who is known to have starred in two films directed by Australian experimental filmmaker Christopher McCullough. Only one of Allard's films (𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅) has survived. His other film (𝑻𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒃𝒐𝒍𝒕) remains lost. Despite being the lead in 𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑨 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅, Allard's character lacks any dialogue.

❓I'm curious as to what you think of this idea for a zine series? I'm mainly doing it to strengthen my portrait skills, but it's also an excuse to research some highly obscure figures.

📣If you have any suggestions of obscure actors you would like me to have a crack at drawing, shoot some suggestions my way.

🚶‍♀️Underneath Hyde Park, there’s a place most Sydneysiders have never noticed.

An underground travelator, once hailed as a marvel of the future, now sits quiet and half-forgotten –– a 200-metre tunnel lined with dreamlike murals, hidden just beneath the city’s surface.

This week on All The Best, we explore one of Sydney’s strangest oddities: a moving walkway that tells stories of innovation, controversy, and the people who refuse to let it fade into history.

🎧 Listen to "Travelator Oddity" at the link in our bio or tune in to @fbiradio 94.5 FM this Sunday between 9:30 and 10AM.

Hidden right under the grounds of Hyde Park, is 𝗦𝘆𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆’𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸. A travelator, spanning a near 700ft and accompanied by an equally long mural. It’s a place surreal enough to feel like it can only appear in dreams. 🏙️

But for Lindsey, there’s a real fascinating story she aims to uncover in this 𝗺𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘆. One complete with world records, controversy, mystery, love and a court drama in between. 🔍

𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 goes to the interviewees 𝗩𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 (@vanessaberryworld) and 𝗧𝗶𝗺 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 for sharing their informative insights about the travelator with 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘆 𝗩𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼, the storyteller, researcher and interviewee of this historically adventurous tale. Additional thanks goes to Persephone Waxman for her professional guidance as Supervising Producer of this story. ❤️

Listen on 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 podcast Tuesdays at 4 PM or catch us on FBi Radio 94.5FM Sundays at 9:30 AM. 📻🎙️
