ARC Review:

Release Date: October 27, 2026
Rating: 4.5☆

What in the world did I just read? I’ve never read a book by Ann Liang, so I’m totally unfamiliar with her work. To Dream in Darkness was a beautifully immersive read, and I wish I’d finished it sooner. Well, maybe not sooner; I was so distraught and heartbroken as I kept reading that I needed a break…oh my goodness, did I need a break!! Also, mentally prepare yourself for the ending because you won’t be the same.

I will admit, I struggled through those first chapters. I felt the progression was a bit too slow for my liking because I wanted to hit the ground running (who wouldn’t when a God of healing and a death God have to work together). So, after a slow start, when things begin to pick up, you really want to jump headfirst into the story. The best way I can describe it is a C-drama in written form, and I think a lot of people can enjoy that comparison. If this were a show, I’d binge it, so you should, too.

Rujia is a character that I can confidently say people will love. I love FMCs who are headstrong, speak without a filter, and are passionate about what they do. I absolutely love women written in this manner. Rujia was hilarious; she was relatable, and you can’t help but root for her in everything she does. She definitely gave the death God a run for his money, and so many people will love that because who doesn’t love some good banter?

On a serious note, Ann Liang explores some heavy, prevalent themes, and she handles them so gracefully. Part of the reading experience is coming across these themes and how she wove them into the story, and I genuinely found it beautiful. You want authors to talk about conversations that might be considered uncomfortable because they carry so much weight within our world, so it’s deeply needed.

ARC Review:

Release Date: November 24, 2026
Rating: 5☆

I’m obsessed, I tell you. I think I started around 10 pm last night, and when I looked at my phone again, it was five in the morning, and I was 90% of the way done. Needless to say, I’ve now finished it after a few short hours of sleep.

Something told me I’d be deep in my feelings, but I assumed I had some time. Absolutely not. That Prologue? Heartbreaking. I read it twice to make sure I fully understood what was happening, and it really solidified my investment. The story barely starts, and you’re already experiencing love, sacrifice, and grief. It was beautifully done, don’t get me wrong, but it definitely sets the tone for what’s to come. You won’t get a break; there will always be something happening.

You will cry, trust me on that. This book deals with dual timelines, incarnation, separated lovers, so do with that what you will. I genuinely mean it when I say that you’re going to cry, so I’m warning you.

“There is no lifetime where I wouldn’t fall in love with you.”

I mean, come on? I really was trying to be quiet because my little brother was sleeping near me, but it was hard. I’m a squealer at heart, especially when characters are yearning and loving toward one another. I’m super grateful to have received an ARC, but it’s one of those books that you just want to hold and annotate because so many lines will call out to you. It was beautifully written and addictive; I cannot stress that enough. This was my first book by this author; I would definitely read more of her work.

My ten before the end ♡

I have 31 more books to read before reaching my goal of 100 books read this year. We’ve got a few more months, so it doesn’t seem overly ambitious. My month long reading slump definitely didn’t do me any good, but I’m very hopeful that I’ll make it to 100 books.

What are some books you hope to read before the end of the year?

My October Hopefuls ♡

I’m feeling pretty confident about the books I’ve chosen for this month. My horrible reading slump is 100% finally over, and I’ve been overindulging in purchasing new books. Needless to say, I have plenty to choose from. Definitely looking forward to reading more mystery/thrillers.

What are you hoping to read?

My reading wrap up for the months of August and September ♡

I completely forgot to make a wrap up post last month, and by the time I noticed I figured it probably didn’t matter. I didn’t read much in August and felt like I probably shouldn’t make a post for only three books. However, three is better than nothing, so I’m can share my small accomplishment.

September was a very good month, too! I’m definitely happy to be reading more consistently, especially with so many great finds. I hope everyone else had a wonderful reading month ♡

I’m literally screaming over this book!!! I can’t leave my entire review because it was too long (I had so many thoughts…I couldn’t help myself), so I’ll keep it short and sweet. I absolutely loved the TRUE, slow-burn enemies-to-lovers (though not quite lovers) dynamic. Soraya and Ikarus are genuine murderous enemies who are constantly at each other’s throats. The dual POV, while unexpected, made for a beautifully immersive read that I could talk about for hours. Also, the plot twist at the end??? I had to slap a hand over my mouth to keep from screaming and gasping, because a lot of that was going on while reading. I was by no means a quiet reader while devouring this book, and I definitely wasn’t sleeping either. So, without a doubt, this is one of my favorite reads so far.

@at.emerald you made such a beautifully written story, I literally devoured it. I can’t wait to buy a physical copy. I shall be annotating it to filth (again) as soon as it’s in my hands.

My NetGalley Shelf ♡

I’ve got 6 ARCS to work through, and I’m excited about all of them. I try to remind myself not to request too many ARCS, but there are so many good ones that come across as I’m searching that I just can’t help myself. What ARCS are on your shelf?

ARC Review:

Release Date: September 29, 2026
Rating: 4☆

Let me start by saying Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of my favorite video games, and Astarion was the first character I romanced. So, it goes without saying that I devoured this book and loved every moment. I’m glad I played the game because Astarion has such a unique, dramatic voice, and I felt like I could hear him while I was reading.

I’m going to be very biased when talking about Astarion, so bear with me. The book starts with him in a pool of his own blood, and any normal individual might have been losing their mind. Not Astarion, no. He lay there thinking the shade of red was nice enough to be part of an outfit, but as an accent color, of course. It’s such a perfect way to introduce readers to his character, especially if you’ve never played the game.

As I said, Astarion is very dramatic at the best of times; he can be skeptical and calculative, and it’s a protective mechanism that he uses to hide his trauma. He has a tragic backstory, especially when you learn how he became a vampire. Consent, or the lack of consent, is a large part of who he is. When you see Astarion and his creator, Cazador, interact, you see that the abuse between the two men runs deep. Physically and mentally, Cazador left his mark on Astarion, and that trauma obviously lingers. I thought Cazador would have a larger presence in the story, and he did, to an extent. I wasn’t complaining; he didn’t need to be on the page to understand how severe his existence is. While the story has uncomfortable aspects, humor is still woven into the book. The characters, both main and side, are enjoyable and well fleshed out. You’ll experience moments when you smile and laugh, and you’ll realize that you need it.

If I could make one critique, it would be that the timeline felt jumpy and inconsistent. Some portions felt perfect, like the absolutely perfect length, while others felt so incredibly short. It felt awkward, and those shorter chapters would pull me out of the story for a bit. Overall, I enjoyed seeing one of my favorite characters have a book of his own, so of course, I 100% recommend it. by @cherripills

August Hopefuls ♡

I have a few books on my shelves that I read halfway through before stopping (whether it was because I was bored, didn’t want the story to end, etc.) So, they’ve sat untouched for however long. My goal is to finally finish the three books on my cart, especially because I’m no longer in such a terrible reading slump.

I have a few books on my kindle I’d like to work through too:
- Circe
- Clytemnestra
- To Dream in Darkness (ARC)
- Baldur’s Gate 3: Astarion (ARC)

I’d love to hear about everyone’s August hopefuls! by @cherripills

July Reads ♡

I wasn’t going to post about the books I read in July because there were only three, and it seemed a bit insignificant. However, I quickly realized that three is better than nothing because I didn’t read a single book last month, so this was its own accomplishment.

My goal for next month is to lessen my screen time and try and read more, even if it’s just 10 minutes every day. I also want to try and post more content, so fingers crossed. I hope everyone had an amazing reading month ♡ by @cherripills
