Throughout the exhibition, LaKesha Lee continuously embodied “The Gathering Space” through tea, conversation, and the mending of family ties displayed in an array of mixed media. Personal lineage, family legacy, and spaces where self-discovery and community take shape are present throughout each piece. Images ranging from youthful family photos to elegant postures of grandparents in sublimation photo form are tucked into textiles and spun within passed-down bedsheets covered in walnut ink.Materializing intangible memory, love, and shared experience, LaKesha’s work in clay exhibits a patience that invites slowness, stillness, and a growing practice of storytelling through craft. by @cherryeastgallery

“The Gathering Space”An Installation by LaKesha LeeThrough clay, this work creates space for lives rooted in dirt and sand, while fabric holds and renders visible memory as a tactile archive, mapping a family tree through material form.Clay vessels serve as an archive for the future that hold traces of dance and celebration expressed through movement and surface detail. Cherry East is excited to host “The Gathering Space” by LaKesha Lee, an installation consisting of functional ceramics and textiles.The exhibition serves as a form of material culture in which the audience is invited to share tea with the artist, surrounded by an array of mixed-media works. A textural material language foregrounds cultural traditions, such as storytelling through craft. “These pieces symbolize the in-between state of acknowledging or understanding new information about oneself, but not having fully integrated it into one’s identity. I composed the subjects as fragmented, separated, opposite, but still bound. I used and placed my materials in ways that reflect the complexities of being human and the pain of growth. Inspired by Carl Jung’s ideas on shadow work and individuation, “Light and Shadow” pairs the work of Kat Brock and Ashley Mintz. Tapping into the energy of the unconscious, the irrational mind sets the tone of the exhibition. Collage-style surfaces reveal the relationship between inner and outer worlds, creating a luminous and lucid experience for the viewer. “Light and Shadow” is open for private viewings through April 10th by @cherryeastgallery

Flow of space throughout Place and Time. A narrative-based exhibition inviting the viewer to experience a visual overview representing community and land. Absorbing spiritual elements within the inner and outer world the work is an off the beaten path look at an East Tennessean’s place in time. Cherry East continues to attempt to tell stories in physical spaces. Physical and visible forms intentionally frame exhibitions into reflections of everyday life. I chose to light each piece in a different way to create a duality between piece’s. By allowing the subconscious to flow I aimed to create an overall tone of light throughout the entirety of the space. Leaning into the framework of the domestic space, my goal was for each piece to sing within the architecture. Place and Time is an exhibition featuring six Tennessee-based artists who present an interior monologue through folklore, mysticism, ancestry, craft, and tradition. by @cherryeastgallery

Finger, PuppetsOil, pumice, sand on linen 16 x 20 in I approach compositions by thinking about carving out form and depth. In this painting, I used darker colors to carve out the background, allowing the subject (the hand) to serve as the focal point. The title of the piece, along with its texture and nuanced colors, alludes to dissociation—the feeling of separation between mind and body. - @raneetaylor_ Ranee emphasizes the deep and often overlooked ways in which our emotional lives are intertwined with the rhythms and forces of the natural world. In an increasingly digital world, Ranee gravitates toward the tangible, relying on texture to viscerally convey emotional and sensory experiences. Thank you to @brownhouse_collective for being a part of the Place and Time exhibition! Here are a few images of Jaden, Karly, and Trisha’s work, along with Josh’s poem, Forming, Growing. It’s fascinating to see how these pieces blend themes of Place and Time, intersecting cultural narratives from New Mexico’s midwestern grottos to snapshots of the local community. The collective’s art embraces the whimsical nature of the natural world while grounding us in the depth of home and community.On view through Nov. 15th by @cherryeastgallery
