Greenback Records asked producers worldwide to remix Xzibit. We answered. Then the contest vanished.

Here’s the whole story.

The label put out an open call and uploaded the vocals. Remix Xzibit, from Kingmaker — his first solo album in thirteen years. Open to producers anywhere on the planet.

That roster meant something to us. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Xzibit. Names we grew up on, sitting on one label. So we didn’t treat it like a contest entry. We treated it like a record. Produced from the ground up, played, arranged, mixed, mastered. One of the best things that has ever left this studio.

We sent it in.

And then the contest was gone. No winner announced, no post, no trace it had ever existed. Our submission got no reply. Our messages got no reply. It was never mentioned again.

We’re not bitter. Labels get busy, plans change, things fall apart quietly. But we were sitting on a finished record we genuinely believed in, with nowhere to put it.

So we entered it somewhere else.

Timbaland x Orbiiit — global talent search, producers from every country, judged in public. Same track. Bigger room.

Best case? Timbaland hears it, picks up the phone, and asks Xzibit: „Yo — have you heard what somebody did with your vocals?“

Or he skips the call and just says: „These guys are dope. Let’s get ‚em on the team.“

That second one isn’t even a daydream. Five producers out of this contest land on Timbaland’s next album. That’s the actual prize on the table.

Unangenehme Aufwärmübungen, viele Wiederholungen und genaue Anweisungen von Regisseur @lukas_augustin__ gehören natürlich dazu. Vielleicht hat Johannes dabei aber auch ein ganz neues Talent entdeckt. 😄

From Boston to Berlin, from @the.swag.official to the @cherryontopberlin Studio @ishantherapper proved that anything is possible. After receiving an invitation to collaborate, Ishan responded swiftly, embracing the unknown to experience the vibrant musical scene of Berlin.

In a short time, he performed at Swag Jam, recorded a new track, and delivered an unforgettable performance at @manege44 youth club. A truly professional, smart, and creative individual, Ishan brought a fresh vibe to Cherry On Top Studio, closing the year with style and setting an exciting tone for 2025.

Building a studio is an incredible journey that involves considering numerous factors and making various compromises. Throughout the process, we learned a lot and paid attention to every detail. Creating the right atmosphere was paramount, ensuring a creative environment for all the artists who walk through our doors.

I was fortunate to meet great people who helped with many aspects. Special thanks to @one_bad_director for helping me complete the job, Avdo for building the cabin and painting the studio, and Cookie for crafting the acoustic panels and the beautiful table. Thanks also to @sikksikk for making the connection. @lukas___wie for helping with details and @pmanovsky my brother for the beautiful original Persian carpet. @timgrenzwert for the crazy good sounding Neumann Monitors. @alice_upside_down having my back with our little Luna 🌚
