Act III The difficult decision

'After spending a full day of fun and games our gallant officer in the airborne decides to call it a day and head home. His best friend decides to walk with him. But the smiles soon turn to looks of concern and distress. The young officer is debating whether to return to Vietnam and volunteer for a second tour of duty. But his friend tries to convince him not to and reassign for a non-combat role due to the sorrow of not seeing him again for another 12 months and with the fear of him not coming back and losing him.

Having experienced the ferocious Tet Offensive and witnessing Saigon and Hue in flames and with the war becoming unpopular with the American public what will our brave paratrooper do?

Will he listen to his closest friend and try and get reassigned to a non-combat job? Or will he actually sign up and return to Vietnam in the name of duty for his country and for the sake of a promotion to 1st Lieutenant, which he knows once this threshold is crossed he will pass the point of no return and embrace his 'Rendezvous with Destiny!' 🦅🇺🇲'

Well that's a wrap for our 1960s photoshoot. Will there be a sequel? Will we find out the final choice our paratrooper makes? Act II Having fun without a care in the world

'After a quiet stroll, our airborne officer and his best friend have decided to have a full day of fun and forget about what is happening in the world and reminisce their childhood memories. Starting with a bit of childish frolicking in the park followed by a lovely picnic on a hill overseeing a lake. We then see the two friends play a little game of catch with a baseball and then ending the session with a nice conversation about how much they both enjoyed their day together after 12 months of separation.'

At the beginning of this month I had the wonderful opportunity to work with fellow vintage enthusiast, the beautiful and talented @cherrytwistlish 🍒 on a 1960s photoshoot. The aim here was to display another side of Vietnam War reenactment where we were focusing on the human side of soldiers away from the battlefield. So let's began the story!

Act I Reunion

'The date is the 5th October 1968. On a cool breezy autumn morning, a young 2nd Lieutenant of the 2/506th Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division returns home after completing one tour of duty in Vietnam. Once home he happily reunites with his best friend from childhood. They both take a quiet stroll together in a park catching up on what they have missed during the 12 months they were apart and trying to make every minute together a cheerful one.'

🌺 Remembering Vera Brittain 🌺

Vera Brittain was a young woman from England whose life was forever changed by the First World War.

She was born 29th December 1893 in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

In 1915, she left her studies at Oxford to become a VAD nurse, caring for wounded soldiers in hospitals at home and overseas. While she was nursing, the war was also taking away the people she loved most.

Her fiancé, Roland Leighton, was killed on the Western Front in December 1915, aged just 20…Vera would go on to lose her brother Edward and two close friends before the war was over.
Afterwards, she wrote Testament of Youth, preserving the memories of a generation whose lives had been devastated by war.

Her story reminds us that remembrance is not only about remembering those who fought. It is also about remembering those who nursed, waited, grieved and carried the consequences of war long after the fighting had ended. by @cherrytwistlish
