When @CherylDurst visited the Obama Presidential Center recently, she told a story about the meaning of place, and how changing our position can change our perspective.

Durst is the Executive Vice President and CEO of the International Interior Design Association, and the first African American woman to be inducted into the industry's Hall of Fame.

Change often begins with noticing what others have learned to overlook … and deciding to do something about it.

That’s the idea behind #BringChangeHome, a series highlighting changemakers who use their experiences, talents, and influence to create a more inclusive world. This is Cheryl’s story. by @cheryldurst

Thank you @iidaohky for the extraordinary honor of asking me to be part of your Student Conference AND Design Awards AND the Midwest Region Chapter Leadership conference. It’s been an incredible 72 hours of design excellence with students, members, and sponsors (and I loved being a “square” on your Bingo game!)

Cheers and so much gratitude for your hard work, dedication and inexhaustible energy!! Also….I’m available to vouch for any well-deserved PTO requests for you, for Monday!

Day 2 of Student Conference was a blast! ✨

Students were able to meet and network with 35+ firms, reps, dealers, and more at the Design Expo all morning at the Hyatt. During lunch they heard from a panel of recent grads moderated by @cheryldurst. The afternoon continued with breakout sessions covering the various journeys interior designers take in their career (sponsored by @kimball_international), the future of advocacy with @ncidqexam, personal branding with @ofs, and portfolio reviews with local Cleveland professionals. Finally, we wrapped up our day by awarding our winners from Thursday’s charette!

Thank you so much to all of our sponsors, volunteers, and professionals who helped make this conference a success! And to our students, thank you so much for your passion, professionalism, and excitement. The future of interior design is bright in Ohio and Kentucky! 🥳 by @cheryldurst

Day 1 of Student Conference ✅

We had the best day starting with our Charette sponsored by @danbinfordassociates @interface and @koroseal ! @cheryldurst kicked things off with inspiration and a call for spreading the awareness and power of design. Students spent a ~frantic~ 3 hours designing a healthcare lobby with a hospitality lens.

Students then took to the streets of Cleveland for tours of local firms and projects. We wrapped up our day at @inspireworkplaceinteriors and @ohiodesk with social gatherings full of fun, food, and networking!

Can’t wait for day 2! 🤩 by @cheryldurst
