Game of the Week #742: Leko vs Erigaisi

Abdusattorov was the best player of the Olympiad with 8.5 out of 11 on board 1, beating Rapport, Ding Liren and Caruana amongst others, leading his country to victory. The games by Abdusattorov are always a candidate for Game of the Week, but our attention was drawn by the clash of generations and styles between Leko and Erigaisi. Clear win for China in Women's Chess Olympiad, while Kazakhstan and India complete the podium

In the final round of the Women's Chess Olympiad, China, led by top board Zhu Jiner, defeated Vietnam 3–1 to secure first place outright with 20 match points. Their rivals did not fare as well. Kazakhstan drew with Poland, while India drew with Georgia. Uzbekistan triumph on home soil, collect second Olympiad gold

Uzbekistan secured their second Chess Olympiad gold by beating Ukraine 2½–1½ in the final round in Samarkand. India took silver after drawing Hungary, while Germany claimed bronze and their first team medal since 2000 after beating the Netherlands. The Olympiad in Samarkand is such an amazingly large and diverse event, that it is nearly impossible to decide between so many interesting games. Last week we selected an upset from the first round, this week we picked a hidden jewel from the middle of the tournament and next week we will probably focus on the top boards in their fight for the medals.
