Whats been the greatest day of my life so far??

Definitely when @chocolatecityexperience hit me up to lead the chess tables at the Anacostia Mural Festival. There's so much joy in being a part of a worthwhile community event. It was so much fun, everyone was dancing, and the people got to learn what en passant was !!

ALSO, check out @earth2melonnation for the absolute freshest/tastiest cold-pressed watermelon juice. Shoutout to him for the coverart :) by @chessindc

On September 13th, ChessInDC was invited by @chocolatecityexperience to lead a chess session at the H Street Art All Night celebration. It was such a cool experience playing chess with reggae music blasting and people dancing with fire in the background.

ALSO, I recently came back from a trip to Italy. At one point, I was in Genoa (an adorable seaport city) and met a group of folks playing some late night chess. Pulled up with my board and made some new friends along the way. Its been a great week so far 😌 by @chessindc

Been traveling for the past couple of weeks, but CHESSINDC needs a meet-up ASAP. I'm thinking of getting something together late September. Be on the look-out 👀 by @chessindc

Played alot of games against some really great people. All I had to do was set up my chessboard in a public spot and WOW, the locals went crazy for it. It got so wild that the cops had to step in and be like, "Ma'am, you're causing a huge ruckus with your amazing chess skills." True story by @chessindc

Our inaugural chess tournament was a tremendous triumph alhamdulillah.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to @bjstudio95 for providing us with an outstanding venue, and to @mobydickkabobs for serving up delicious catering.

Malik - The overall champion of the tournament was awarded a $100 prize

Daniel - The champion of the beginners division was awarded a $100 prize

Emily - The lucky attendee who was randomly selected, received a $60 prize

Below are some reviews from our players:

"This tops the charts for the coolest, most aesthetic chess tournament. All thanks to the best host ever, Basma. I will definitely be at the next one." - Malaz

"I enjoyed my time at the event and meeting the people who attended; it was a beautiful experience and a very pleasant environment. Thank you for crowning me champion." - Malik by @chessindc

All it takes is a single game of blindfolded chess to get the people riled up.

If you look closely at the second pic, you can see that the woman in the black top has her fork READY to poke any fool that dares to claim that chess isn't going to overtake the American sports world within the next 5 years.

It's only when I'm observing a chess match that I finally get how people who watch football feel. EXCITEMENT THROUGH THE ROOF.

How would you describe how a knight moves to a beginner, without mentioning the L shape?

Got to meet some new people, listened to some good music, and learned some new opening techniques. Overall, a 10/10 day at @putteryofficial by @chessindc

If the end game was a trapped pawn + king vs. knight + king, would you offer a draw?

A whole lotta emotions were shown during this latest meet up at @boardroomdc
