Sometimes it take us NYC natives a very long time to visit the sights that are not just in the city at large, but pretty much in our own neighborhood. The Chinese Scholars Garden at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center (@snugharborccbg) opened in 1999, and 27 years later, I finally made the 15 minute drive this past Saturday to go visit. How embarrassing!!! Well, it was certainly worth the trip and for all the tourists that ride the ferry… don’t just get back on the boat to return to Manhattan. Go to the S40 bus (Ramp D at the ferry terminal) and ride 15 to 20 minutes to Snug Harbor and see not just the Scholars’ Garden, but the various museums and gardens there as well.

Well, it’s been one incredible June here in NYC. The Knicks. The World Cup. Puerto Rican Day Parade. And today, the annual Pride March caps the month. Here’s a few photos from today’s super colorful parade. (Still getting used to the new camera…so photos aren’t exactly perfect.)

For the first time in about three years, I have a camera other than my iPhone. Took it out for the pretty much the first time yesterday in Central Park on an absolutely beautiful day.
Still playing around with getting the settings right, but got a few decent pictures..from General Sherman’s statue in Grand Army Plaze to kids chasing giant bubbles to man with his dogs.

My humans and I won an award!! I was in the First Freshkills Park Dog Parade and we won the Twinning Award because my pawrent’s clothes matched me!! Do I get to put Ch. in front of my name now that im a champion?!? @freshkillspark

This person is a thief. If you swipe, you’ll see of video of this shit taking a couple Amazon packages from my front door. Mr Theif is going to very disappointed: a kitchen sink strainer and a prescription (a statin) is all he got. Regardless of the small monetary value, I hope this man suffers from explosive diarrhea whenever he’s out in public. by @chet362

After the bitter cold, a foot of snow, a quick weekend to a not very warm Florida, and a bout with some bronchitis, we finally have a warmish 46° and sunshine for my first walk in the park in five weeks. Did a bit over two miles- a mile less than I had been and a slightly slower pace.
The lakes are still mostly frozen (safe for the geese and ducks, not humans!) but the snow is finally starting to recede. taken in Clove Lakes Park by @chet362

Once again, a Staten Island express bus got cancelled with no warning...like 20 minutes after it should have left its depot. This is about the sixth time in the past few months that my wife has missed an event that she had a ticket for because the the SIM 3c and often the 33c can't seem to run more than one bus into Manhattan during the late afternoon or evening. it is beyond pathetic how bad this route has become. The alternative of course is leaving about an hour earlier for a local bus and the ferry. The @mta just doesn't seem to care. For the south shore of course, the SIM 1c never seems to miss a beat runs 24/7 with seemingly more buses than passengers. So @demetriuscrichlownyct @sibpvito @nycmayor @cmdavidcarr can any of you do something about this? Maybe call the depot and find out why run after run on evenings are cancelled without almost any warning? Maybe someone could get one of the seemingly hundreds of 1c runs and move it to a 3c so we don't go TWO HOURS without a bus in mid-island? Oh, the SIM33c...that isn't much better...one its late afternoon/evening runs was cancelled too at the last second. by @chet362

This is a screen shot of the @mta app from a few minutes ago. It shows that there are no active alerts for the SIM33c, express bus from mid-island to Manhattan. Yet, the 10:45am bus never showed up on the app. I started a chat with the MTA. Turns out that that bus and the one after it were cancelled. No warning, no message, no app or website update. Not surprising actually because this happens more often than the bus actually being on time.
Off peak and weekend express bus service from Staten Island is abysmal. The 3c and 33c have a schedule that isn’t worth the paper it is printed on. The SIM 1c and 4c that serve the east and south shore never seem to have a problem. For every one 3c or 33c, there seems to be three 1c buses. As ridership on these buses is way up- especially on the weekend, the miserable service is just even worse. @demetriuscrichlownyct You absolutely need to make the service on these two routes more reliable. They need to follow their schedule. They need to just bloody run! When they do run, they need to stop arriving ten minutes early, making us wait another 30 minutes for the next bus- if it actually exists. The 1c gets all the attention while the 3c and 33c are left in a desert somewhere. Not only does it need to be more reliable, it needs to be more frequent. Weekend afternoon/evening buses are packed. You often can’t get a seat south of 14th Street going back to Staten Island. Of course, that is made even worst when one bus gets cancelled. @sibpvito @nycmayor @cmdavidcarr @govkathyhochul by @chet362
