In the growing saga of Chet doing something without researching it first, I decided to try adding gourds to my tiny raised garden this year. I started in February with 10 gourd seeds and several dozen pepper seeds. The peppers sprouted great like they always do, but the gourds never did. Right after Mother’s Day, I moved all the sprouts outside and dumped the pods that the gourds hadn’t sprouted from. And, knowing there wouldn’t be enough grow season left for the gourds to grow fully, I planted some more gourd seeds. The gourds have since taken over, and I’m learning/assuming that the swollen part below the flower is going to be the actual gourd. If I get a dozen good sized ones, I’ll be happy. I’m hoping they will be fun to paint or make in to birdhouses. by @chet_dodge

This is my uncle Tim. In January of 2020, he took Adriana and I to Disney World for a week. Throughout my life, Tim and I have spent a ton of time together, road trips to Delaware, stopping at the tastee freeze for cherry cokes on the way out of Delaware, rock concerts, quick trips to Columbia to find a certain comic book. He even took me to see the first ninja turtles movie when I was 4, I was more impressed with theater seats than the screen though. Again, when I was little, he took me to a college football game, and we made a dozen trips to the bathroom(it was a trough and I thought it was pretty cool), I knew he was frustrated but he kept it lighthearted. Years later, Tim shared his dear friends with me and welcomed me to his role playing group for adventures and a fellowship like no other.

Today Tim is not doing well and I don’t know how much longer he has. As well as I know Tim, I’m not worried about his eternity, I’m selfishly worried about my temporary. I’m not really looking forward to going forward without my fun cool uncle. But, a verse helped me today, 1 Corinthians 15:49, and as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. The silver lining for all the things I worry about for myself, is Tim will be better, there isn’t a future where this is his end.

I’m grateful that my parents and grandmother are doing their best for him. It’s frustrating and heartbreaking for all parties involved, but being able to depend on people who love you is an incredible feeling. by @chet_dodge
