Last night on WTTW, Chicago I joined two women doing amazing work and spoke about the heartbreaking stories of two Black mothers who were denied care and why our community has never been surprised.

When our gyrls face stigma, judgment, and dismissal the moment they walk into a hospital, it shows up everywhere in their care. We hear the same stories again and again:

Dismissed pain
Harsh attitudes
Traumatizing interactions from registration to
triage
Young mothers feeling broken before they even see a provider

At Gyrls In The H.O.O.D Foundation, we refuse to let them walk this alone.

We're looking forward to officially starting H.O.O.D Homework Hour tomorrow at 3:15. Children can work on their current assignments, our workbooks, puzzles etc.

There's no one way to grieve and I've lost enough people in my life to know that time doesn't heal all wounds. My Grandpa death (still doesn't seem right typing those words) has affected me deeply. I closed the H.O.O.D this week to cry, scream, write, stretch, and cry some more...and that's okay. Check out my substack to read more of my thoughts.

We've served so many gyrls and families since this phenomenal moment. This was before we had a space to operate from When the H.O.O.Dmobile and city streets was our office.

It's definitely been a journey but one that I'm truly grateful for. ❤️
