WOW what a fun morning! 😍 I'm still buzzing from my segment on @breakfasttelevision! 🤩

I chatted with Meredith and Sid about ways to maximize the space you have at home for kids and families 💫

Kids' spaces require more creative thinking than your average space 🤔

But we can turn tricky spaces to your new favourite spaces through the use of vertical wall space for increased storage capacity and functionality, as well as child-centered design elements like different "zones of play."

There's nothing like Install Day energy ⚡

It's action-packed and full of real-time decision-making (and boxes, so many boxes 😆)! I honestly love every minute of it!

Our team shows up with everything, ready to build, assemble, style - and yes, we even take away the garbage 🙌🏻 And when I get to see the kiddos’ reactions in person? Pure joy & magic 🥹💕

A playdate-ready transformation 💫

What started as an awkward basement layout with two adjoining rooms turned into one cohesive playroom that the kids are free to move their bodies and gain new skills and confidence!

We created an adorable two-storey playhouse that connects to a continuous circuit of climbing and swinging!

From monkey bars, custom upholstered foam pit, rock walls, rope wall, and interchangeable swings, trapeze and climbers, the playdates have been non-stop 🥳

Then we created a seating area with an oversized sectional and fun hanging chairs. The storage coffee table doubles as the perfect surface for puzzles, art and magnatiles.

Did you spot them all? 👀

No, it’s not the convertible crib, the accessible toy storage, that gorgeous green rug, or the fully stocked dresser...

It’s this 👇🏻

🤍 To create a soft place to land on restless nights, we added an oversized chaise for mom & dad, instead of just a rocker

🤍 To create the perfect pitch-black room for sleep, we blocked the awkward smaller window with statement artwork — adding style and personality at the same time

🤍 To support baby’s independence and body awareness, we added a shatterproof Montessori mirror with a pull-up bar to help him work toward milestones like pulling to stand and eventually cruising

Just some unexpected choices that make this nursery feel elevated, personal, and anything but ordinary 😌

Save this for your nursery design inspo 💭

Because boys deserve beautiful, cozy rooms too 🤍

When I dreamed up this room for my tween client — a budding entrepreneur with a cookie business 🍪 and student athlete 🏌🏻‍♀️ — comfort and functionality were top of mind.

We layered in a cozy upholstered bed and airy curtains, then made sure there was plenty of room for everything else: a rotating shelf and full-length mirror, a desk with storage for homework and business supplies, a whiteboard calendar to stay organized, and a medal display that happens to perfectly fit his toy cars 🚗🚙🚕

Playhouse dreams come true 🪄

Designed to grow alongside my 3yo client, this incredible playhouse balances active play, quiet moments and everyday imagination.

Each zone was thoughtfully planned for movement, flow, safety and capacity to host playdates with multiple kiddos at once 🤩

The brief: Make their house the one every cousin wants to come to 👀

So we built one for all of them! Climbing frame, monkey bars, basketball, swings, a slide, playhouse and a creation station. Something that works at 1, 4, 9 and 12. Boys, girls, every age in between.

My daughter's 8th birthday had me reflecting on where it all began 🙏🏻

Becoming her mom changed how I saw the world. I started noticing what kids actually need to feel safe, free, and curious 🌱

Montessori gave me the language.
Motherhood gave me the why.

Now I get to create joyful, purposeful spaces for families who also believe that kids deserve home environments designed with them, and not around them.

To my dream girl who helped me see everything differently, I hope you’re proud of the life we’re building 💕

If this resonated, let's be friends! Follow along @chezshaydesigns for more kids' space inspo and my Montessori-based design philosophy 🤓

This basement was the room no one wanted to be in 👀

Now it's everyone's favourite place to be!

Reimagined for movement, wonder, real life practicality and versatility, and most importantly, connection as a whole family 🤍

That forgotten corner of your basement has more potential than you think 👀

When designing for mixed-age siblings, the goal is a layout where there's something for everyone at the same time.

Hidden nooks to discover. Toy storage that also invites play. A self-serve arts & crafts station.

Now you've got a space where your kids feel calm, capable, and actually want to stay 💫

🔖 Save this for when you're ready to reimagine your space

When a 6yo knows what she wants 🪴💚

Some kids ask for a theme. She asks for a sanctuary: real plants everywhere! Just like her favourite hotel @1hotel.toronto 🤌🏻

So we gave her a room that grows with her, literally! 🌱

Her own balcony garden to tend, a nook for journaling and reading, shelf plants, floor plants, statement rope pendants, and fairy lights ✨

Plants design by @planted_souls, who made sure every plant in this room would thrive alongside her.
