Join me on Monday November 9th as Welcome to the Show, Chicago’s only live traveling talk show, is held at the exquisite First Presbyterian Church in Woodlawn! I’ll be sitting down with the co-founder of record label Sooper Records, the director of photography for Block Club Chicago, a co-founder of one of Chicago’s newest live music discovery platforms, an r&b musician who released his excellent album “R&Beyond” earlier this year, and Chicago’s very own beloved urban historian! Like every Welcome to the Show this event will be FREE to the public to encourage as many folks as possible to come out and get know Chicagoans making waves in their own city so real. Let’s spread the love and appreciation of our home through the art of conversation. Seating will begin at 6:30pm and the show will start at 7pm. Our friends at @edgewatercandles recently took us up on the building illustration offering, and here's the result! Their home in the Historic District on Bryn Mawr draws people in from all over the city to take part in their classes and to sniff their candles. An added bonus is their sweet 1969 VW bus parked out front from time to time. by @chgohoods

I'm trying out a new offering: custom building illustrations. There are limited spots open now, but more may open up depending on demand. Have you ever wanted an illustration of a particular building? Now's your chance. Whether it is your home, your favorite building, or a place you used to love when you were younger, I'll create an illustration in the style of the ones shown in the pic that accompanies this post. Clearing's own @djrybski is one of my favorite comics in the city. We finally connected after I saw him on "Welcome to the Show" in the spring (shout out @bishpleaze), and since he's gearing up to go headline a bunch of shows this fall, we decided to work on some merch. He's got a headlining show coming up at Zanies in October, and will also be hitting a bunch of cities from Denver to DC as well. The art features his childhood backyard, with the train running just beyond his fence, and an airplane taking off from Midway. by @chgohoods

West Town! Did you know that this Eckhart Park natatorium in Noble Square has a twin? Yup, there is also one in Harrison Park in Pilsen. A few of the window panels are different colors, and some of the frosted panes are in different spots, but otherwise they are basically the same. by @chgohoods

I love maps, so I was pumped when the @chicago_reader reached out to me to create this "Broke Day Trip" map for the July issue! I also like to include Easter eggs into my art when it is possible, even if no one will notice or care, and this one is no different: The Blues Brothers playing on the drive-in screen, my friends Jon and Jamie and their dog Birdie at Miller Beach, and my son's handwriting for the word "map."
