Throwback to a short documentary I filmed in Nsukka and Port Harcourt in 2018. I was reminded of it this afternoon after speaking with the artiat, @eme_omeh.

Looking back now, I realize we captured something truly lasting — a young artist at a defining moment. Today, he’s doing remarkable things on the global stage with his art.

The documentary explored the inspiration behind his work, especially the idea of “cracks” - the subtle details and imperfections he observed in his everyday environment in Nsukka, which became the language of his creativity.

For me, storytelling is always the priority. More than anything, I want the viewer to feel the story - to be immersed in it and carried along by the emotion and meaning behind the visuals.

Fun fact: part of the documentary was shot on a Tecno C11 camera phone.

Our next documentary is titled The Making of a Music Industry.

It tells the story of the pioneering journey of Premier Music — Nigeria’s foremost record company — which began as Phillips West Africa, evolved into Phonogram, later Polygram, and ultimately became Premier Music.

This is the story of the institution that houses Nigeria’s largest music catalogue and laid the very foundations of our modern music industry.

This year, Íje Énù screened at the Iconic Africa Centre in London and yesterday, at the Centre for Memories in Enugu—two spaces that understand memory, culture, and story.

I wasn’t in both physically, but as a filmmaker, you learn that once a film is released, it begins to live its own life. Seeing how people receive this work, how it makes them remember, feel, and reflect, is the real reward.

For me, the deepest fulfillment is still the same—watching an idea that once lived only in my head become something real, shared, and enduring.

I am deeply grateful to @edemekakeazor and @thensibidiinstitute for carrying this film with intention and helping push its reach beyond borders.

Next stop: New York. by @chi_kezie

Photos from the screening of IJE ENU: A Documentary on Celestine Ukwu at the Centre for Memories.

Produced and directed by Chikezie Ifedobi @chi_kezie (Q-Toz Productions), the film offered a moment of reflection on the life and music of Celestine Ukwu, and on the values and messages his songs continue to carry, across time and generations.

Our sincere appreciation goes to our partners; the Nsibidi Institute @thensibidiinstitute & Afia TV @afiatvofficial , collaborators, guests, and lovers of Celestine Ukwu’s music who joined us to honour this legend and his enduring contribution to Nigerian popular music.

The Pop Music Centennial Documentary Screening Series continues next Friday, February 13, 2026 with AKATAPO: a documentary exploring the story and legacy of Pa Tony Odili.

We look forward to welcoming you again as we continue the centennial celebration of pop music in Nigeria.

London … the centennial celebration of Nigerian Popular Music continues in one of the most important outposts of its journey. The site of the earliest popular music recordings (Ladipo Solanke’s seminal recordings of 1925); the site of the legendary Abalabi Club, where Ambrose Campbell held sway. The city that saw the Funkees export the rich rhythmic Afro-Rock sounds germinated at Aba in the late 60s to the big stage at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s (performing alongside the Chi-Lites, Earth Wind and Fire etc). The city where the indomitable Nigerian spirit fuelled the stubborn quest of @djabass @ayoshonaiya @djbloxofficial @iamsmade @weirdmcofficial @jimibaldhead etc to place Nigerian music on the map and alongside others, led the charge to the current Afrobeats global wave. The city that saw fearless young Nigerians like Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, JJC etc craft the art that become a global phenomenon, following in the footsteps of preceding legends - Fela, Remi Kabaka, Ofo The Black Company etc a generation before. We celebrate the icons - and the journey. Please join us … 🦾 Tickets in link in bio by @chi_kezie

You just wake up and realize the year has come to end. Everything went so fast.

I began to understand lately that one of the core reasons why we are alive is so that we can learn our lessons. A dead man does not have the opportunity to evaluate his mistakes of yesterday and make amends. He’s done!

So the first breath you took this morning was a sign that you have another chance to learn from your past. That’s the reason you are alive today.

This thinking is golden. Sit with it.
