LL Kleisch is a thoughtful and versatile typeface for text to display use. More than that, its the perfect companion to old-style CJK (Chinese/Japanese/Korean) Ming typefaces.

Next to the regular LL Kleisch family with six weights plus italics, the Kleisch Headline and Kleisch Display families offer improved contrast for use in large and extra-large sizes, respectively. To allow for perfect adjustment to various designs with Ming fonts, Kleisch also comes in a fully variable version: With axes for weight and contras that allow to minutely modify character shape and greytone to match a wide range of Ming designs in common use today. by @chiachi.chao

We are pleased to announce a substantial new release on Lineto.com:

LL Kleisch
Designed by Chiachi Chao (2020–2024)

Taking cues from the work of Kis, Fleischman and Van Dijck, Chiachi Chao is addressing the various problems of matching Latin serifs with Asian Ming typefaces, while formulating a decidedly contemporary rendering of baroque serif styles.

LL Kleisch comes in four formulations:
the standard rendering for text use, LL Kleisch; a version with increased contrast for headline use, LL Kleisch Headline; a high contrast version for display use, LL Kleisch Display; and finally, a variable version in two parts, Upright and Italic, containing the full range of renderings, LL Kleisch Variable.

Our new section, Articles, is showcasing Chao’s research that led to the creation of LL Kleisch.

A printed, two-volume extensive research report and detailed type specimen for the LL Kleisch project is available.

Bézier was an experimental display typeface developed from the workshop of Radim Peško in 2020 at Écal.
The project interrogates two questions. First, is it possible to develop a new stroke model (instead of from nibs) from the organic sculptures of Jean Arp and Henry Moore? Second, whether a typeface can give off the same spirit as post-modern organic architecture found in the works of Burle Marx, Zaha Hadid, and Frank Gehry?

Hemon is a display script typeface drawn for setting on big sizes. It was created upon a synesthetic design exercise exploring the relationship between indie rock music and letterform. Eventually, the letterform was inspired by the abstract painting of Dutch artist Sedje Hémon. The cursive letters with irregular, acute connections visually translate the crispy, noisy, and consecutive sound of indie rock music.

My interpretation of Diethelm Antiqua designed by the Swiss type designer Walter Diethelm. Released in 1948, it was one of the first serif typeface released by Haas Foundry. It has a strong calligraphic feature with constructed form. The typeface has also been expanded with Greek Script.
