Documentary and art exhibit give voice to Indigenous Australians celebrating 40,000-year old traditions and cultural ceremonies.
The 13-minute short is evocative of what the completed documentary will be highlighting the art, music, dance and performance that the First Nations People create and share to heal through art, teach future generations about traditions and teach others about their plight. To complement the screening, we'll engage in a panel discussion moderated by Marla Gamze, Artists of the First Sunrise documentary producer and present artwork by professor Wayne Quilliam, one of Australia's pre-eminent Indigenous photographic artists.
Community conversation is invited and welcome!

Saturday, November 14, 11am-2pm
Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N State St

Meet CAM Featured Artist Andres L. Hernandez. His work can be seen in Vacancy: Urban Interruption and (Re)generation at the Glass Curtain Gallery until November 21. "The built environment inspires my practice, and this is due to my education and professional training in architecture. While I am not a licensed architect, I consider the interpretation and shaping of space as central to my work. Equally informing my practice is the history, material and visual culture, and creative production of African-Americans during their transitions to urban contexts through the Great Migration, and their struggles against inequity during the Civil Rights Movement. Lastly, the refreshing inventiveness and creative activism of youth and everyday citizens constantly pushes my understanding of our world, and I am continuously grateful for that." Glass Curtain Gallery, 1104 S Wabash

Meet CAM Featured Artist Kiam Marcelo Junio @iamkiam whose work will be screened as part of OpenTV: Pilots by Women and Feminine-Spectrum Artists @WomanMadeGallery THIS SUNDAY, November 15 from 2-5pm. "My work is multidisciplinary and takes form as photography, video, installation, sculpture, drag and butoh performance. My work is influenced by history, mythology, queer identities and communities. Visually, I take a minimalist approach to investigating grand questions, focusing on detail, metaphor, and intentionality of movement and material. I use a lot of flowing, translucent, and shiny fabrics, mirrors, and organic objects such as rice, dirt, flowers, and branches." Woman Made Gallery, 685 N Milwaukee Ave
