Today is the anniversary of the day we lost the Maestro, Arnold Jacobs, His influence is still felt all over the world and will be for generations. I could think of no better tribute than sharing some of my favorite photos of him: The two of me with him at his last masterclass at Northwestern. The photo of him with an f tuba in his younger years that was put up on the screen at his memorial concert, playing his Besson Round Stamp EEb that John Fletcher picked out at the factory and gave to him, one featuring his huge smile that makes me remember his joy and that wonderful low laugh when something went well in a lesson, the photo from the Song & Wind book cover (I believe taken by the great John Taylor), with Bell and Bobo, and with Roger Rocco the day the Maestro received his first Honorary Doctorate from VanderCook College of Music.

Join us for a special masterclass with Roger Rocco, internationally respected tubist, brass pedagogue, and master teacher.

A longtime student of legendary Chicago Symphony Orchestra tubist Arnold Jacobs, Roger has spent decades helping brass players from around the world develop greater freedom, efficiency, and musical expression through a simple guiding idea: the music tells us all we need to know.

This masterclass is for all brass players — trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba — as well as teachers and students who want to deepen their understanding of brass performance and pedagogy.

Come experience Roger’s approach firsthand and explore the principles behind “Sing, Buzz, Play” and “It’s just the singing.”

October marks CHI Brass' 3rd year anniversary of making tuba mouthpieces. Starting with just 1 model, the JS Helleberg, we added a few more in year two and now, in 2026, many more models. Great players around the world are now using them, and 5 of the world's best players have asked us to create Signature models for them. Today, I started boxing up 4 dealer orders that will be complete as soon as I get the new Sergio Carolino signature models in from plating, and that box is on its way to me now. These boxes are going to our incredible dealers: Professor Mouthpiece, Rose City Instruments, Tuba Man Plus in Japan, and our newest dealer, Trovador Musica in Portugal. This will be over 150 mouthpieces, plus some cutaways and rims on a stick, going out the door in a few days. We also ran out of our first 1,000 CHI Mouthpiece boxes and had to get another 1,000 made!

Also we will soon be receiving the first batch of Tucci Vintage 50 mouthpieces made just like the old school 50 was. More on that soon!

Thank you to all of our customers, friends and dealers for your support!
