The 25th annual (and my 1st!) Bike The Drive event was so, so fun. I got to experience Lake Shore Drive in a whole new way, and I found a yearly event for me to attend! It was great seeing so many (helmeted) Chicago bikers out enjoying the lovely Sunday we had.

4 years ago, I took a seemingly random trip to Chicago. I left that trip certain of two things— I wanted to live in Chicago, and I wanted to work in architecture. (If you’ve encountered me at all in this time, I probably wouldn’t shut up about either)

I’d just finished a post-baccalaureate architecture program at Cal and was positive I was NOT ready for my M. Arch, but I still felt called toward architecture & design. I began taking intro architecture classes at Laney and was even more enamored than before.

A few months later, I got a part-time job as a Studio Coordinator at a firm in Berkeley, and some short months later began working for the coolest community architecture firm in the Bay @yesarchitects. So not only was I working for one architecture firm, I was now working for TWO. The duality experienced in these two roles has been invaluable for me! I couldn’t have imagined everything that this position would bring to me, but I’m forever grateful for this step in my life and the opportunities I’ve been able to take hold of.

From attending affordable housing galas, to participating in an MC3 construction program, to redesigning my bathroom all on my own, to leading an incredibly talented, diverse, and dedicated team, each step I’ve made over the past 4 years has led me to today!

In one short week I’ll be driving cross country to begin my life in Chicago as Studio Operations Leader at a Black owned architecture firm. A true dream. Like couldn’t get any better.

I’m excited, nervous, and getting incredibly nostalgic about life in the Bay. I had a bit of a “farewell week” last week, and wanna thank everyone who hosted me, fed me, and convened with me for my last real week in Berkeley! I truly appreciate each and every one of you.

So, there’ll be no more stoop styles for a while, but catch me fit checking in my new office in Chicago, on Mag Mile, and every where else around the great Windy City 🏙️ taken in Chicago, Illinois by @chicagzo
