We’re baaaaaack!!
We decided that 2024 was the year that we’d be back with more Chics content. And man, a lot has changed on here since we started! So pardon our learning curve as we get up to speed on all the newfangled thingabobs on IG. We’re learning, mkay?!

Anywho, we started the year off at this dope little spot called #CodeRed here in Washington, D.C. It’s located in Adam’s Morgan. Can I tell you, I can’t remember the last time we were in AdMo?! Chile, it’s been AGES.

So it’s definitely giving speakeasy vibes (love a good speakeasy) and you have to knock and give the code word (DM us and we’ll send it to ya 🤭).

Between the velvet booths, the photos and the music (today’s pop hits sang in the style of the early 1900s lol), it was…whimsically historical? We really enjoyed!

We started out with the “Kinky Thompson” (bourbon based), the “Mary Pickford” (rum based) and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. The drinks were good; Madam Pickford was noted as very sweet, so if you like sweet drinks (and rum), give that one a try!

I want to caution you: Their food menu isn’t huge. So if you’re looking for options out the wazoo, this ain’t the place for you. But we got a wide range of apps: chicken wings, calamari, steak on a stick, and smoked gouda arancini. We added on a dozen oysters on a whim. I’m going to be honest: The food wasn’t incredible, but it was doable. The drinks and the ambiance of this place made it what it was. And I’d go back in a heartbeat and try some different things. Back at it, Chics!
We’ve hit @brooklynonu, @bin1301dc, @amsterdam_dc, @cafesaintex tonight.
Red Sangria, Frose, Passionfruit Daiquiri, vodka/soda and tequila shots. I’m either very brave or very stupid. But I’m extremely excited to be back out and about!
Best Music: Brooklyn and Amsterdam.
Best Drink: Undecided. Nothing impressed me, tbh. But the daiquiri was good. Strong. Especially for a pre-made drink.
Best Atmosphere: Also undecided. Maybe Bin? Or Cafe Saint Ex.

So this place is pretty cool. Mostly Mexican beers and a pretty solid margarita make up the #happyhour specials, but not complaining. Next up? Putt Putt. Yep, they've got mini golf here. Imagine how fun that is after a few drinks! #ChicsAfterSix #HappyHourDC by @chicsaftersix

Yes, friends, I am in fact giving you back-to-back happy hour spots. It has just been one of those weeks...not that my inner foodie is complaining. Tonight I hit up #SonomaDC in the Eastern Market-ish area (btw...no IG, guys??? Cmon.). The drink specials were nothing special (the sparkling wine wasn't bad), but the food. DUDE...the FOOD. Yum. Everything you see in the photo was sampled and everything was really, really good. Not pictured: brussel sprouts and pepperoni pizza...yes, we literally had everything on their happy hour menu. Judge if you must. We walked out full and happy (and just a bit tipsy, but don't tell anyone). 🤫

Just know: You can find a GOOD happy hour on the go! This is my favorite happy hour in @unionstationdc. Their buffalo calamari and crab & spinach dip are to die for! And their Winter Citrus Sangria and Pomegranate Lemon Drop are delish. I also checked out this other spot...super random. My husband and I ran in while we were waiting for our Ramen. Kinda divey, and a dollar or two more than I would've usually paid based on location, but the bartender made up for it. Nice guy. They were doing this sparkling wines special in December, which seemed a bit out of place considering the space, but I appreciated the effort to add some fun touches to what might otherwise be your average neighborhood semi-dive spot. Will be back to try out their happy hour.
