This piece is one of the only pieces that I’ve made recently that gives me so much joy. Lots of personal representation in this- family fences and yards, native Mexican trees, cake! Been taking a long break from making hats until I can find a sustainable hat base. The trucker hat bases I was using before are made of 100% synthetic fibers and plastic; and do not have a transparency about their supply chains and working conditions.

I probably won’t be making any hats in the near future until I find a source that coincides with my main goals for making products and art.

Just a reminder to me and yourself to consume as ethically as you can🫱🏽‍🫲🏾

I want to highlight the amazing collaboration with @globalbased we made earlier this summer. They are all designed and airbrushed by me and locally embroidered by @dorianvw.designs . I could not be any more pleased with how all 4 designs came out and all the positive comments about them.

The pink and baby blue Sucia hat is for all my dirty little chico y chicas. The doily pattern is inspired by my childhood babysitter’s dining table draped with a white lace tablecloth protected by clear plastic (a classic combo in Latin households). I’ve had this idea for so long and I’m so happy it was finalized with @meowlaila_ and @xopeligrosaa

The multicolored Global Based hat is heavily influenced by Latin and South American flags with blue, red, yellow, and green. It is for my people who love color and a lil statement piece. The camo hat is on the opposite side of the spectrum. It is a classic camo and hunter orange that never goes out of style. Truly the perfect hat when you just need to throw something over your bedhead.

The black and white trucker hat is supposed to be the wall in your tia’s or abuela’s house that is covered in crucifixes burning hearts, Virgen de Guadalupe, and a million other symbols and pictures. They used to haunt me as a child but there was something so beautiful about the collage of items. This design was challenging to finish because of the dimension and craftsmanship of those symbols. I ended up using multi-layered stencils and bedazzles to mimic the detail and feeling those symbols represent.

I started going to Global Based events the 3rd year of living in Portland and I am so so sooo grateful I did. I probably would have moved back to LA if I didn’t find this Latino community. I feel so loved and at home here❤️
