I'm looking forward to joining fellow HBCU leaders, alumni, and supporters during HBCU Legacy Week on the Vineyard! It's always an honor to connect with our Viking family and celebrate the enduring impact of our nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

I’m especially excited to participate in the State of the HBCUnion Address panel, where we'll discuss the opportunities, challenges, and bold future of HBCUs. I hope to see many of our Elizabeth City State University alumni there as we continue advancing the legacy and excellence of ECSU—together. by @chiefecsuviking

Today, I had the opportunity to walk through the future home of Elizabeth City State University's Aviation Science program—a space that represents where vision, innovation, and opportunity take flight. ✈️

Set to open in Fall 2027, this new Aviation Science facility will support the continued growth of one of ECSU's signature academic programs, providing our students with cutting-edge learning environments that prepare them for careers in one of the nation's fastest-growing industries.

Watching this project take shape is a powerful reminder of our commitment to investing in student success, workforce development, and the future of aviation in northeastern North Carolina and beyond.

The future is being built—one beam, one classroom, and one opportunity at a time. I can't wait to welcome the next generation of Viking aviators into this remarkable facility. #vikingpride by @chiefecsuviking

Today, I had the opportunity to be part of the Northeastern North Carolina High School Football Media Day hosted by ECSU’s WRVS 89.9 FM.

Football season has a special way of bringing communities together. On Friday nights, stadium lights illuminate more than football fields—they shine on hometown pride, school spirit, teamwork, perseverance, and the dreams of young men who represent something much larger than themselves.

The event celebrates the young people whose dedication, discipline, and determination inspire us all. Each team has the opportunity to share its story before the season begins. It is a chance for our coaches to discuss their vision, for student-athletes to represent their schools with pride, and for our region to get a first look at what promises to be another exciting football season.

As we prepare for another football season, let us remember that competition is at its best when it is rooted in respect, sportsmanship, and community. While only one team may win each game, every student-athlete has the opportunity to grow, learn, and make memories that will last a lifetime. by @chiefecsuviking

State of HBCUnion 2026 is not just as a convening for HBCU Leaders, but as stewards of legacy, architects of access, and guardians of institutions that have shaped generations of leaders, innovators, and change-makers. Today, I had the privilege of recognizing Jasmine Jackson during what was her final Board of Trustees meeting as our student representative.

As the 73rd Student Government Association President for the 2025–2026 academic year, Jasmine brought the student perspective to the Board table with professionalism, insight, and a deep commitment to Elizabeth City State University. Her leadership and advocacy have helped strengthen our institution and elevate the student experience.

I was honored to join Chair Justin Waddell and Vice Chancellor Kevin Wade in thanking Jasmine for her service to the Board of Trustees and for her outstanding leadership across our campus community.

Today, we celebrated a powerful step forward for aviation education and opportunity in northeastern North Carolina. Through this new partnership between @ecsuvikings and @ecppschools, we are creating new pathways for students to explore careers in aviation, aerospace, and STEM right here in our region.

Through this Aviation Academy partnership, students at Northeastern High School will gain early exposure to aviation education, dual-enrollment opportunities, mentorship, hands-on learning experiences, and access to the innovative resources available through ECSU’s nationally recognized aviation program.

At ECSU, we are committed to growing our nationally recognized aviation program while ensuring local students can see themselves in these high-demand careers from an early age. This partnership represents access, innovation, and investment in the future of our young people and our community.

Thank you to the North Carolina General Assembly HBCU Caucus for hosting the 2026 Advocacy Day and providing North Carolina HBCUs the opportunity to share achievements from this past academic year.

I highlighted our ninth consecutive year of enrollment growth, the launch of our five-year strategic plan ASCEND 2030, the celebration of our 135-year anniversary, and the expansion of our Aviation Science program with new facilities and partnerships.

I also shared ECSU’s gratitude for the General Assembly’s support of NC Promise and the construction of our new dining and residence halls. by @chiefecsuviking
