@toklas_bakery collaborated with the @todolicitrusfundacio in Valencia on a range of marmalades featuring some of the orchards beautiful fruit.

The Todoli foundation was created for the research and conservation of citrus biodiversity. As such they have nearly 500 varieties of citrus produced in their outdoor orchard.

Taking a look at the citrus used in the marmalades they tend to have inconsistent sizing and pigmentation. Each piece feels unique and I wanted that to come across visually.

My thought was to use ink paintings to replicate the colours that bleed into each other on the skin surfaces. Additionally, it is a quick medium that allows for many ideas to generated quickly.

It became apparent very quickly that I was not the person for the job with regard to painting. Thankfully my much more artistically talented partner @chieri_o bailed me out. (She told me to not write this and say that I brought her in as a “collaborator”).

She deserves all the credit on this job.

A glimpse into the studio — last night I spent some time making test tiles with underglazes and pigments.

I have a bad habit of just improvising with mixing colors whenever I’m glazing, using my mental projection of how a particular mix *should* turn out… which hasn’t been a problem for me since it usually works out 😅 but since the range of materials I’ve been using has been expanding as of late, I thought it was finally time.

Who else is like this?? Please tell me I’m not alone ahaha
