Thoughts on the overnight ferry to the main island: I'll miss this place. As the ferry slips over the ink black, rolling waves, I watch as Hokkaido and everything it has been to me, rolls away, replaced quickly by ocean as I start my journey to San Francisco via the ancestral hometown. My heart is warmed by the friendships I've made here as I heed the call of the journey. Fishing boats bob in the sea as the last bastion of the island; their lanterns throwing soft beams of light in a warm glow around them as I try to find some sealegs on the upper deck amongst the building knots of boat against wind and rain. Thanks @saki_chow and @____sakie16 for driving me to the ferry terminal at 10:30pm! The legends are camped nearby to catch the morning surf. Hope you score! It's nearly 2:30am. I should try to get some sleep. Photo by @austinpowder //🙏🌊 taken in Hokkaido Japan by @chilledmoose

Good times hunting for big lefts amongst the red tide! This ended up being some of the heaviest waters and currents I've gone to shoot in, with a rocky beach crux... twice. More shots coming soon as I recover from the red tide and process the memories of Typhoon Mindulle //💀🥊 taken in Hokkaido Japan by @chilledmoose

The ささ dance was an important part of the sounds of early winter when I lived in Niseko so being able to bash through the leaves again is like playing music from another era in life//🎋🎋

An edit from the Eser’s Olive Harvest Festival! It’s one of my favorite events of the year full of old friends and new. We picked almost 2 tons of olives! Thanks to Saylor for her photos and Soroush for the drone footage! //🍸🫒 taken in Woodland, California by @chilledmoose
