Unfortunately, most of the children stripped from their mothers never reunited with their families. Although some people would rescue their family members, including children, this wasn’t a regular occurrence.

Mothers who gave their children distinctive names in hopes that they would locate them likely knew they would never see them again but I suppose they wanted to have peace of mind, knowing which plantation they were on or at least whether their children were still alive.

I have always appreciated seeing individuals with names that aren’t considered “job application appropriate”—you know, the names they say employers are likely to skip. Perhaps this resonates with me because my first name isn’t traditional (it’s literally a sound😆) and my parents combined their names to create my middle name. Often, African American names are labeled as “ghetto” because they are unique creations and/or lack English origins. And they’re told it will be difficult for them to become successful. However, there are countless individuals with unique names who have reached the pinnacle of success. Although I don’t agree with her politics, Condoleezza Rice is a great example; she made it to the White House with her distinctive name.

A unique name to me represents freedom. The unique naming tradition has deep roots, and those who wish to should continue to honor it.🖤✊🏾

“Love thy neighbor” is the second commandment; not a suggestion. Some racists who claim Christianity seem to have gotten this.

Luke 10:27-37 shares a very clear story that your neighbor isn’t just referring to someone who literally lives next door to you, but all people, including those from different ethnic backgrounds.

Having no empathy for people who don’t look like you is demonic.

Wishing harm on those who have a different outer appearance is demonic.

Feeling like you’re entitled to more than others because of your physical traits is demonic.

Education helps some people but ultimately prayer is one of the best defenses against those who have allowed evil to rule their hearts and minds. God can only conquer the devil.

I was nervous to do mini twists after not doing them for years because my hair thinned in some areas after I got sick a year ago. I had a mystery bug that lasted for two weeks, and three months later, I experienced MAJOR shedding. Hair coming out in CHUNKS, especially around my temples.

It’s called telogen effluvium. It is a temporary form of hair shedding caused by a major physical stressor, like a severe infection, high fever, or surgery, which shocks a large number of growing hair follicles into a resting phase.

Anywaysss, the mini boho twists came out cute, even though I was nervous about the thickness.

Love to all my crooked letter citizens🖤🫶🏾

Instead of critics saying Black Mississippians are asinine for living in the Magnolia State, they should be saying they’re admirable. Their ancestors didn’t leave during the Great Migration, when 6 million Black Americans fled to the North to escape the racial violence in the South. They stayed and faced down danger and corruption with unwavering faith.

Everyone had to do what was best for them. And for the ones who weren’t in a financial position to leave, they had to play the hands they were dealt. That takes another level of fortitude.

Today, Black Mississippians are walking on ancestral ground, standing firm in their faith. I understand that some people are urging Black Mississippians to leave out of love and concern for their safety, but moving North doesn’t guarantee they will avoid racial violence. Mind you, George Floyd‘s tragic death occurred in Minnesota.

Let’s continue to lift each other up and keep the focus on reprimanding and punishing the predators, not the survivors.

RIP to all the innocent souls lost🤍

I usually get the birthday blues, but this year God gave me nothing but gratitude.💛☺️🙏🏾

This time last year, I wasn’t in the best space. It felt like God was stripping things away, piece by piece. I’ve lived in beautiful high-rises, worked my dream jobs, partnered with some of the biggest brands but God was like, “aht aht, I have a different path for you.”

Even though I was generally happy, there was always this quiet emptiness, like something was missing. Over time, I realized it was God gently pulling me back to being fully Christ-centered. I’ve explored New Age teachings in addition to Christianity—manifestation, numerology, sacred geometry, all kinds of spiritual practices in search of truth but through prayer and deep study, God revealed Himself to me.

I’ll share more of that journey later, but for now I just want to say: refocusing my life on faith and fitness has been one of the greatest gifts. I’m so grateful for where God has brought me, and I’m excited to keep walking forward, fully guided by Christ.☺️ ✞✨
