My drawings and my issues

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Drawn this time last year, I’ve gone through many cycles of hurt and hope, these pages stick out to me now. It’s good to be ready for anything, but that state of mind wears you down. At the best of times you feel like you’re floating through it, like in water.

Obscure Dino that might be a bird also: balaur bondoc. Went down a rabbit hole about these guys and am kind of attached now. I have drawn so many angels with dinosaurs, this might just kinda be my thing now.

T. Rex’s are such a fascination for me lately. Despite being the most well known extinct dinosaur, I feel like I’ve never seen a portrayal that felt real. I always get the sense that something’s missing in recreations. I’ve tried to draw them in a way that feels real and tangible, but I don’t know if anyone will ever get it. Anyways, mama Rex and angel.

Last year I marathoned the Jurassic world movies, wonderful slop. The pyroraptor stuck out to me though! I like the red feathers, more fun and interesting than the usual mean, lizard turkey look.
Still going through my old art! I’m almost done my sketchbook, might post a flip through?

There are two pigeons inside you. There is a dragon inside you also. You have trouble making friends.

Allosaurus and fishes. This is another one from last year, I made it into a print and I think I’ve also posted it before lol…. It’s been really interesting scheduling my whole backlog. I don’t really have ambition for my art like I used too, I don’t know if I’m trying to build something anymore. Last year I started looking at my work with so much resentment, and that’s still there a little bit, but it’s mostly been replaced by an absolute fervour to draw. I don’t have a goal anymore but I’m itchy when I’m away from my desk. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I would spend all day and all night drawing dragons and wolves, drawing birds on my desk at school, erasing them when the teacher came by, then drawing them again…
I’m reminded that being an artist was never something I could opt out of, no matter how hard I try. It’s a hard pill to swallow, accepting that something is very very important when it doesn’t matter. I drew these with paint and pastels on construction paper.

Dragons my love… in my life I have consumed so many books about dragon riders they’ve all morphed into one in my memory. There will always be a place for plucky hero’s and gentle beasts in my heart.

One of the first pages in my Toronto sketchbook, a lot has changed in the past year. Interesting how this era of my life is defined by the slow takeover of dinosaurs in my art, lol
(A lot of the pages have paper glued over the spine now, I’ve carried this book through so much this year it’s kind of falling apart)

I almost did a Christmas card this year… then I didn’t, so now I’m posting it in April.
Yutyrannus and angel, this guy is what started the feathered T. rex debate!
