I'm out hobbling into my garden to pick greens for a salad. It's my turn to host our game of Canasta. Fresh baby spinach, mignon lettuce, spring onions and parsley. I'll just add red onions, capers, cornichons, olives and a greek dressing. Fresh and delicious.

I think my gluteal tendinopathy pain is changing from a searing tearing pain to more of a burning ache. That's progress so I'll celebrate!

Living in small spaces definitely has advantages - easy to keep clean, economical to decorate, cosy and intimate.

I'm back at my little unit to enjoy a day out with my sister.

Today was a high of 28C and tomorrow will be 33C in the northern suburbs. All the long range forecasts predict a very hot summer - nights above 30C and days of 40C plus.

I think I'll join the wooly boys and just hibernate until Autumn next year.

I love reading biographies and this one by Shirin Ebadi, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize 2003, for her work in supporting women and children's rights in Iran was so interesting.

She now lives in exile in the UK but is still so active in her humanitarian field.

AND....My first bunch of roses. Ever so reliable 'Gold Bunny.' Both bushes are smothered in buds as is 'Shocking Blue' and 'Double Delight.'

Such an exciting time for rose growers despite the black spot, aphids and red spider mite - most of the time they are worth the worry.

This little bouquet of linaria, sweet peas and dwarf stocks sit in a very special Waterford vase.

It was given to me by a friend who saved my life, but lost hers, to ovarian cancer.

As I sat having morning tea with a group of teaching colleagues in March 2003, one shared her symptoms of bloating, general abdominal pain, fatigue and specific pain over her left ovary.

A lightbulb went off in my shocked brain as I had the same symptoms. She had just had the CA125 blood test, was awaiting results, and suggested I have it.

Days later we were in the same hospital having cancer removed. When I saw her scar I knew everything was very different. I had Laparoscopic surgery to have the ovary removed. My cancer was contained and had not spread .

My friend had a huge fleur dis lis incision.

She died a year later and I live thanks to that sliding door moment.

Gardens can be such a worry. Whilst nursing my torn tendon, I missed watching the new growth on my roses which are now covered in black spot and stunted wilted ugly leaves.

The lemons left on the tree had something burrow into them causing big rotten patches and most of my dwarf snapdragons are dying - they have self seeded and are biannuals, so to be expected.

The only decent looking patch in the back garden is the dwarf stocks but they will come out soon as they are biannuals too and will die this year.

I'm not eating my veggies fast enough and most of those are about to go to seed.

One minute everything is great and the next it's all an awful mess!

This orchid spike is from a plant John's mum, Hilary, cultivated for many years, then gave to John when she went into a nursing home a few years ago.

John isn't the most devoted, or enthusiastic, gardener so it's a miracle it's still alive.

Hilary will be 100 years old in January.

Everyone needs a devoted fur baby in their life - especially when trying to escape the chronic pain of gluteal tendinopathy.

Jackson is my little nurse who hardly ever takes his eyes off me when I'm lying down. Not only that - he has to touch me constantly too.

This afternoon is a rest time after a busy week. Going right back to only gluteal activation exercises has definitely dialled down the pain. I'm also only walking out of necessity. The idea is to help the tendon repair and then worry about loading the tendon later.

Fingers crossed this works 🙏

I really enjoy my tiny 1990s kitchen in the unit. It's all original and although I don't cook a lot here since moving to South Australia, and buying a home, I still love its simplicity.

So, when out op shopping, what better thing to buy, being a Francophile, than a gorgeous pen and ink sketch of Sacre Coeur and the Montmartre area. It wasn't priced so I asked and couldn't believe what she said - $5.00!

AND what better place to put it - on a stove that rarely gets used.

The sun appeared for 5 minutes, then left as abruptly, this morning.

I'm off to my unit to do a spring clean there. It won't be too energetic though as I'm having a horrible time with gluteal tendinopathy and can't move without that searing pain.
