BRUJAS ! Spiritual awakenings are rarely ever only about love, light and incense. Most times it comes with emotions of hurt, pain, anger, sadness and learning to let go. Feeling these emotions are not evidence that we are loosing ourselves. They can be tools to guide us to break patterns, old habits and purge. What if our anger is the tool required to return to ourselves ? I want to thank @chingona09 for trusting me with this project and her vision. It is something that Is very close and personal to us as women and I’m so excited that I finally get to share it with you! The word “bruja” has historically been used to shame and demonize women who preserve traditional spiritual practices such as curanderismo, Santería, and other Black and Indigenous ancestral traditions. Through colonization, African and Indigenous spiritual systems were labeled as dangerous or evil. Thus, creating a lasting stigma around practices rooted in healing, connection, and cultural preservation. The forced spread of Christianity contributed to the disconnection many communities experienced from ancestral relationships between spirit, body, and land. This work explores womanhood, ancestral veneration, and feminine rage as forces of resistance and transformation. Black and Brown women have often been villainized for expressing anger, labeled as irrational, aggressive, or dangerous when responding to harm and injustice. Brujas challenges the belief that anger is something to suppress or fear. Instead, rage becomes an emotional and spiritual tool. A pathway toward self-reclamation, boundaries, healing, and recognizing one’s own power.
