We had a preview screening of our documentary MISS SARAJEVO RETURNS today at The Guardian HQ, while the film is still in post-production.

It was incredibly special to share an early look at the documentary with an audience during Refugee Week - curated by Ornella Mutoni. We can’t wait for everyone to see the finished film soon.

Miss Sarajevo Returns is a documentary tracing the journey of Inela Nogić, who became an unexpected symbol of resistance when crowned Miss Besieged Sarajevo at 17 during the Bosnian War. Decades later, the film follows Inela as she reclaims her story, exploring the personal cost of global media attention and the complexity behind her iconic image. From intimate scenes in her Amsterdam home to an emotional return to Sarajevo, the documentary delves into themes of identity, agency, and healing.

The film was made possible with the support of the BFI Doc Society Fund, awarding National Lottery funding, and The Guardian.

Featuring and Told by Inela Nogić
Directed by Albie Swingler
Produced by Dorottya Székely and Aleksandra Bilić
