Woodleaf - one of the most challenging jobs I have ever taken. I have never been more tested, exhausted, overwhelmed, lonely, sick, and uncomfortable in my life. But, we grow the most in uncertainty, we will never become greater by living in comfort - where we abide, fruit follows. This summer has made me so grateful for all the people in my life. I used this internship solely to create relationships and to show love to those who need it most. I now have bits and pieces of my heart scattered all over the US. I was able to meet so many beautiful souls, all from so many different backgrounds. I also had the pleasure of seeing hundreds of kids say “yes” to Jesus on a weekly basis and watch their lives be completely changed. Even though I didn’t get to be on the front lines where all of the camp magic happens, I was able to steward the office, doing the behind the scenes work. I rarely was given recognition for what I did, but that’s okay because it was never about me, the job, or how I did things. It was ALL for the kids. #FTK

A simple thank you isn’t enough for this wonderful opportunity to serve and surrender. What a beautiful first experience at Younglife! I will never be the same.❤️‍🩹

This past weekend I graduated from NMU with 2 degrees in 3 years. All while navigating how to live with multiple chronic illnesses. It was NOT easy, and there were many times where I thought college wasn’t the right fit for me.

I originally toured Northern as a joke. No intention of committing at all, I just wanted to check out their programs and scenery. Needless to say, I fell in love and choosing NMU was the best decision of my entire life. So many people tried to talk me out of going to Marquette, but I decided to move 5 hours away from the town I lived in my entire life. Once again, I decided to dream big and I’ll be moving to California for the summer!

This is your sign to do it scared. Do it messy. Do it wrong. Do it anxious. Do it sad. Do it uncertain. Get uncomfortable and do it anyway.

Here’s to a future full of going for it.🤘🏻 taken in Northern Michigan University by @chloe.helsel

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;

Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you.

Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?

In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.

If you know me well, talking about my feelings doesn’t come easily. However, writing about them comes naturally. The best way I can think of to honor Cass is to talk about her and share the legacy that she leaves behind.

I first met Cassie before I can even remember, we grew up together at daycare. Our summers spent at Kathy’s house are some of my fondest memories. Being told that Cassie was going to be there was like music to my ears, and the days when she wasn’t there were lacking in joy. I was asked what memory sticks out to me most when I hear her name, and it’s one of the days we were staying at Kim’s house. Her mom was making us lunch and we had corn on the cob, we were sitting at the table and Kim ran to the fridge saying she forgot the spray butter. I remember laughing so hard because I thought she was joking. Before I knew it there was a bottle of spray butter on the table and we were laughing so hard we almost fell out of our chairs. I think if Cass knew that every time I see spray butter I think of her, she’d love that.

Once we were older and living in different towns our friendship changed. It was harder to talk to each other and spend time together, but she was always constant in the back of my mind. During the limited times that we were able to see each other, it was like time never passed and we were the same little girls from years ago. If you were in the same room as us at those times you were definitely staring at us because we were laughing so hard we couldn’t breathe and also the loudest people in the room. She was the sister I never had and we always talked about how we were separated at birth. We loved cracking jokes about each other. We’d talk about being bridesmaids in each other’s weddings and in the same breath say how disgusting men are. She would never take anything too seriously (cont. in comments) by @chloe.helsel
