long time no post!!! I did in fact move to nyc (🥳) to work in the literary world (🕺) and have not done a wholeeeee lot of personal reading. but I have done LOTS of observing what other people are!! no better place than public transit to see what the people are actually reading! here are just a small sample size of the many books I’ve seen these past couple months. have you read or would recommend any of these?

best offer wins by maria kashino!

It’s been so hard for me to finish books for fun recently as I’ve been reading so much for work. Love that but also my menacing TBR needs some love😞

But! This book was such a breath of fresh air and incredibly easy to get through. It follows Margot, a PR professional living in DC with her husband, Ian. They’ve been searching for a house in a dismal market for over a year, and Margot attributes all of her problems to the fact that she just can’t seem to grasp her dream home.

One day, Margot gets some insider info from her realtor that the perfect home, in Margot’s ideal neighborhood, is set to be listed soon. Jaded by countless bidding wars that have never worked out in her favor, Margot decides the best way to secure the house is to befriend the current owners and convince them to set up an off-market deal with Margot and Ian. So begins Margot’s obsessive journey with Curt and Jack, the house’s owners, and the lengths she’ll go to for the house of her dreams.

This book was incredibly fun and unpredictable. Add to the canon of unhinged women doing truly unhinged things. I loved this, though, because Margot was more than her actions — I actually felt like I could empathize with her frustration despite the bonkers things she does. As an Asian woman among her white peers, Margot feels even more pressure to live up to the expectations she and society have placed upon her. There’s also something thrilling about the fact that like…a terrible housing market IS a real life horror story. May a 20 person bidding war never find me🙌

I’d recommend this book, especially if you’re looking for a fun, twisty read!! 🩷 What are you reading at the moment?

tysm to my bffl @lilyvbrooks for this idea 🩷 memorial day basically = summer in my eyes so i’ve been thinking abt my summer reading plans!!! this felt so nostalgic as someone who went HARD on my elementary school summer reading challenge🤚I’d love to hear what’s on your summer reading bucket list!

I was in NY for my friend’s graduation (🩷) and saw many people reading !!! one girl specifically was reading famesick while walking! we love the dedication.

I didn’t read too much but I finished set piece by Lana Schwartz. I love u @831stories. a super fun & quick read (as they often are!!)

so behind on book reviews but had to talk about this one!!! love & fury follows mary wollstonecraft’s life and treacherous birth of her daughter, mary shelley. if you don’t know mary wollstonecraft, look her up!!! incredible person and an early feminist who had such an interesting life.

this book goes back & forth between the POV of mary’s midwife and mary as she tells the story of her life to her daughter. the prose in this book was gorgeous, i felt so immersed in the world & I could tell this subject is something the author is truly passionate about. an emotional GUT PUNCH of a book but in the best way.

so many complex relationship in this book, particularly with mary’s immediate family and childhood friends. as a young woman, she meets fanny (who she named her first daughter after🥲) who inspires her & her work for the rest of her life. she also has experiences with some truly diabolical men…further proving her own beliefs abt marriage😳

overall such an in-depth, interesting depiction of an intellectual woman in a society ~200 years behind her. mary makes a choice to never get married — something I think is honestly even a little radical today. she supports herself alone, lives alone, has children out of wedlock… she was that girl. I loved learning more about her life & most certainly read that wikipedia page after.

highly recommend!!!
