ARTIST SPOTLIGHT — CLEIDINILSON “CHOCCO BASS” COSTA

Pocket. Tone. Groove. Foundation.

For Yakou & Friends, the rhythm section has to do more than keep time — it has to create a foundation strong enough for everything else to move freely. Cleidinilson “Chocco Bass” Costa brings exactly that kind of musical presence.

A bassist and multi-instrumentalist active in the Atlanta music scene, Chocco has contributed to a wide range of projects spanning jazz, funk, soul, Latin-influenced music, rock, and contemporary groove-based styles. His credits include studio work as both bassist and keyboardist, reflecting the broader musicianship he brings to every arrangement.

What stands out about Chocco is his ability to sit deep in the pocket without overplaying. His bass lines support the song first — giving the drums something to lock into while leaving space for the harmony, vocals, and improvisation to breathe.

That makes him a natural fit for Yakou & The Urban Legends, where the music can move from jazz and soul to African and world-music influences within the same performance.

On August 29, Chocco will be right at the center of that engine.
