Last week might be one of the biggest “once in a lifetime” moments for my sister, Nichole, and I, as we installed our very first art piece at the Detroit Institute of Arts. We were chosen to participate in this year’s exhibit of Annual Ofrendas. There are 12 different ofrendas, each of them unique and beautiful in their own ways. Our exhibit honors and remembers our grandparents and great aunt and all of the ways they bettered our world. It will be on display until November 2nd. Last week I wandered into the garden to ease my heart and find some peace. Because, is there anything so awe inspiring as November flowers in Michigan? And lilacs after multiple freezes? Last week I wasn’t ready to accept the peace the flowers offered, but this week I am. If these lilacs can survive a November freeze then, I too, can be brave through what’s to come. Time for hard work. And finding the joy there. by @choubell
