In a form of a 27 year old, a 14 year old dressed to the nines for a magical night where they are bound to see one of their life heroes in flesh.

Attending The Eras Tour is more than just a dream come true but it also filled a void and it felt like a recollection of how we both [me and Taylor] evolved into the persons that we are today.

I am beyond grateful to have experienced the magic of this concert twice and this doesn't conclude everything as I still aim of seeing her once more with a better view on her next possible tour.

This was the first K-pop concert I attended where one of my biases wasn't on stage. Because of that, I had already convinced myself that I wouldn't be attending. It didn't feel right knowing that members who should have been there couldn't stand alongside the rest. But the moment the concert dates were announced, I didn't think twice; I decided to attend, even if it was just for one day.

Watching only five members perform was bittersweet. They should have been a nonet. Knowing that some members were absent not because they wanted to be, but because of circumstances beyond their control, made every performance feel a little heavier. At the same time, it reminded me just how much I love EXO as a whole. They have been such a huge part of my life that I know I would have regretted missing this concert for the rest of my life.

Being there wasn't about pretending everything was okay. It was about supporting the members who were able to stand on that stage while continuing to hope for the day the rest can join them again.

I just hope that one day, EXO and EXO-Ls can finally walk on a flower path together again.

I make it a habit to attach a photo of my younger self whenever I post something about Pride Month because who was afraid of little old me? My parents! They were so afraid of me growing up gay that they chose to put me in a box instead of letting me freely express myself.

It's just insane to think about how strong the stigma around being queer was in the early 2000s. My parents sent me to a psychiatrist at the age of six because they were afraid I would grow up gay instead of wondering if I'll struggle with possible ADHD or Autism growing up. I'm not romanticizing either, but I have a hard feeling that I have one of them. Turns out, the money they spent on those four sessions went to waste. And to think that one thousand pesos in 2003 was a huge amount compared to its current value.

Looking back, none of it really changed who I was. Even the number of toys I received that were marketed toward boys did nothing so astonishing in my becoming. I still wanted to play with dolls and roleplay as the Powerpuff Girls and Totally Spies with my younger siblings because it’s way more fun that way.

I tune in to One of the Boys by Katy Perry every Pride Month. It's not a song about coming out. It's more about Katy Perry’s coming of age and stepping into womanhood. But to me, so many of its lyrics feel like something I would write in a letter to my parents that I'd keep hidden in a box under my bed. Because at the age of four, I already knew I was never really one of the boys.

As I always say in my Pride Month posts, I hope parents today choose kindness when their children freely express themselves instead of forcing them into a box or, worse, hurting them in hopes of "fixing" them because all that does is leave children carrying wounds that can last a lifetime, and parents wondering why they're resented years later. Why bring a child into this world and poorly treat them if they choose to be open about themselves?

In a few months, I'll be turning thirty, and I am still certain that I was never going to be one of the boys. I am still the girl my parents tried so hard to make into someone I was not.

Happy Pride everyone! 🏳️‍🌈 by @chowanni
