煮麺 (にゅうめん) - Nyuumen: hot somen noodles in chicken seafood broth with charcoal-grilled soboro. This was the しめ (finishing course) in @sumibiyaki_arashi omakase.

We last went around 1.5 years ago and the しめ then was a chicken soboro don. Both great ways to end the meal. Can tell that Chef @pete_ho and his team have continued to up their level since our first visit. Although we quite enjoyed our first time, this time blew us away even more. The shokunin finesse was evident. The kishuu binchotan 紀州備長炭 flavor on each component was expertly done. Service was attentive too. One thing we would have liked to see more of: more innards offered as part of the omakase. Hearts is included which is fantastic and there are some innards available as add-ons but limited quantities. Overall, a memorable dining experience and would come back. by @chowhunter_yvr

@kunyit.bali at @indonesiainvancouver Indonesia Festival was outstanding. They were freshly charcoal grilling sate babi (pork sate) and everything looked incredible. Aroma was tantalizing. Luckily we were able to get our food before long line formed.

We ordered Nasi Campur Babi which came with sate babi, babi guling (Balinese crispy pork), urutan (pork sausage), lawar, kerupuk kulit, super spicy but flavorful sambal. High execution level, even the rice was perfectly cooked. Transported us back to Bali.

We also ordered Sate Lilit (ground chicken sate with aromatics) - see 3rd photo. Comes with sambal mata. This had a nice char. Great flavor. by @chowhunter_yvr

Devastated that Kamo Bakery is closing Aug 31, 2026. Thank you to @dennisthefoodie for letting us know. We had to go stock up while we could and probably will go back again at least once more. Their baklava (especially the pistachio ones) are fantastic - crispy, not doused in syrup and not too sweet. Nut flavor really shines. by @chowhunter_yvr

@lagmanuyghurcuicine is one of the new stalls at the Robson Public Market and it makes superb noodles.

We ordered the Stir-Fried Belt Noodles with Spicy Chicken (first pic), Lagman (second pic), and Ququira aka Uyghur Lamb Wonton Soup (not pictured).

Noodles are hand pulled to order so don’t expect it served right away but that’s what make it so good. Such addictive, chewy noodles (especially the belt noodles which we later ordered extra to finish off all the delicious chicken/sauce). The sauces/toppings were so flavorful without being overtly oily/oniony/garlicky. Everything very well balanced. Belt noodle dish had complex mala spicing. Lagman had a beautiful tomato acidity that was refreshing especially with the veal. The lamb wontons were also well done and soup was very homey. by @chowhunter_yvr

@old_durbar_resto exceeded expectations with their Nepalese dishes. We ordered:

1. Momo platter (all chicken) - butter chicken momos, steamed momos, chili momos, deep fried momos, tandoori momos
Spicing for all of them was on point. Supple skin on the steamed momos. Fried momos were not oily. Surprisingly butter chicken momos were so flavorful - the sauce is not at all what you typically associated with butter chicken (in a good way - spicing much more complex). Chili momos had a balanced sweet and sour sauce. Tandoori momos had a nice tandoori baked texture and taste. Served with two sauces - lighter, mild one on the left and a spicier one on the right

2. Bhatti momo - we chose buffalo momos for this and they are boiled and served in a flavorful bone soup. So addictive and already craving this again.

3. Sekuwa (lamb) - boneless, marinated lamb kebab like dish baked in clay oven. Not gamey at all. Very tender, perfect spicing. Served with puffed rice and vegetables.

So many more dishes we want to try too. Really tantalizing food and staff were so friendly. by @chowhunter_yvr

Beautiful bountiful bread haul @vanmarkets :

- @tommyswholegrain Cinnamon Raisin Loaf. We love all of Tommy’s breads and pastries and this one is no exception. Plump, tart raisins with cinnamon and whole grain sourdough 👏🏻

- @healysfoods Traditional Irish Soda Bread. An exception Irish soda bread. The buttermilk aroma is intoxicating along with the organic local flour and oats.

- @pastaggioyvr Sourdough Focaccia. Fantastic tang from the sourdough. Such a bouncy texture with perfect seasoning of salt and touch of rosemary by @chowhunter_yvr

We were gifted homemade zongzi by family. Some of the best we’ve had - white & purple sticky rice stuffed with mung beans, lapcheong, pork, salted egg yolks, dried scallop & shrimp, chestnuts. So filling in the best way 🤤 🙏 by @chowhunter_yvr

Mortadella slice from @mortadella915 👌🏻 Well-executed balance of flavors and textures with pistachios, pistachio sauce, stracciatella, fior di latte.

We also had the Meatball schiacciata that was fantastic. Veal & pork meatballs with great spicing and slight kick topped with arugula, raclette, and a piquillo agrodolce which is probably the unsung hero. It had a level of sweetness and sourness that wasn’t overpowering. Sometimes caramelized onions can be too sweet but not so here. We detected hint of tomato too that pulled some acidity.

We’ve tried many of their slices here and have found it consistently satisfying. Will need to explore more of their schiacchata options. by @chowhunter_yvr

@thegelatomafia Double scoop - June Seasonal: Strawberry Field Day and Peanut Butter Paesano.

Very satisfying. Have always loved their PB Paesano because the base is peanut mylk with satisfying PB cups. Strawberry Field Day uses @maanfarms strawberries and is creamy, refreshing. Good pairing 👌🏻 Have not visited the shop in quite some time. Used to go to their Commercial Drive location more often before the fire that occurred next door. They now have locations in North Van and Burnaby. by @chowhunter_yvr

@nabihousevancouver opened for lunch on Father’s Day and was offering a special menu item: Beef brisket suyuk with a mustard sauce (1st pic). Bit of broth was poured on top. Simple seeming but very difficult to execute well and chef expertly prepared it. Beef was clean tasting with a good beefy flavor, tender yet with a gentle bite and chew. Not dry at all. The broth was soothing. Green onions on top were not harsh tasting and could tell they were well washed and seasoned. The mustard sauce on the side provided a nice kick.

We also had their Salmon hwe (2nd pic), Nokdu pancake (3rd pic), and Royal court tteokbokki (4th pic). Just like the beef dish, could tell everything was thoughtfully prepared. Flavors and textures were balanced so well. Nothing too sweet, too oily, too oniony. A refined touch yet still homey and authentic.

Chef’s mom was serving us and she was lovely. They are a fantastic son and mom duo. We can’t wait to go back and try their other dishes! by @chowhunter_yvr

Ecstatic that @lucy.s_van is finally opening their shop this Friday! We feel so honoured to have been invited at a special sneak peek.

We were in frozen custard withdrawal, not having had it since their pop-ups. The offerings today were incredible. First pic - vanilla (bottom) and rocky road (top). The vanilla was freshly coming out of the machine which adds an extra layer of deliciousness. That texture is unbeatable! Second pic - rocky road (bottom) and mint chip (top). We sampled other flavors too and had some darn tasty freshly baked chocolate chip cookies too.

Thank you so much and congratulations again Shannon, Brian, Lucy, Jill, and the rest of the team! Your hard work and dedication really show and we very much appreciate it. See you again very shortly 😜 by @chowhunter_yvr
