@divinepunishment_ was kind enough to send me a suite of extremely sick #thall guitar plugins which gave me another excuse to rework an old riff into my new mix template and hit it with the Buster Odeholm treatment. I used three of their plugins on this: Glimmer which gave me really great top end sparkle on the clean, Sanctify, and Malpitch, both of which I’m automating for the most aggressive accents to add bite and more robot noise. Sanctify is basically on the whole time after the tempo shift about halfway through.

Once again I’m playing my @dunable_guitars Baritone Yeti (tuned in Drop B) with a ton of pitch automation in #ThallAmp by @odeholm.audio. Bass is #InfernoBass II by Odeholm Audio and drums are you guessed it #OdeholmDrums. I’m also tone matching my instrument groups to the producer pack stems of Ashen by Humanity’s Last Breath and my overall mix to “Labyrinthian” inside the session I built after watching the Nail The Mix session he did for that track. My computer is fighting for its life when I have everything turned on but god damn it BEEFS.

Thank you to Divine Punishment for the software and thank you for your attention, please enjoy. by @chreeishreds

Messing around with some new Great Wall ideas. This is part of the most recent new song I started working on in 2020. On the one hand it’s a bit harder to play now that I’ve started thinking about vocals because I realized after trying to sing over it that the melody I had in mind needs to come down a couple semitones (all Great Wall stuff was in Drop C). I’m in Drop B here on the baritone @dunable_guitars and tuned down a half step with my Whammy pedal and physically making some of these jumps and stretches on this guitar as opposed to the normal scale ESP fuckin hurts after trying to nail a minute of the same part for a couple hours. My action on this guitar is also much higher to account for how big the strings are. On the other hand it’s a bit easier because I figured out how to do a bunch of pitch automation on the Whammy with MIDI command controls so I don’t have to do pinch harmonics on a 75 gauge low E string and I can automate slides and octaves very easily. Anyway please enjoy and thanks for your attention.

INTRONAUT - “NOSTALGIC ECHO”

This is one of my favorite songs and the track that made me an Intronaut fan a long time ago. I’ve wanted to take a crack at making my own version of it for a while. I used a stem splitter to extract instrument groups and vocals from the stereo master then learned and tracked those from scratch. I programmed drums by throwing the separated kit pieces into PT using the audio to MIDI converter so I could start from the exact performance on the record but use my own sounds. Full guitar playthrough video coming soon.

Gear/Sounds:
@dunable_guitars 27.5” #Dunable Baritone Yeti tuned in Drop B (13-72 gauge)
@odeholm.audio #ThallAmp, #OdeholmDrums
@neuraldsp #Plini (Clean GTR), #Parallax (Bass) by @chreeishreds

So I’ve been working on a total remix/remaster of the self-titled Great Wall album (the one from fucking 2011 with all the ripping Thundercat and Dave Elitch tracks on it) and thought I was gonna have to program a bunch of replacement stuff using an audio-to-MIDI converter on stem splits from the .wav masters because the hard drive with the multitrack sessions died like twelve years ago and I haven’t seen it since.
•
I got in touch recently with the guy who helped me produce and mix the album (Kit Walters, who I originally met after he did “Fake History” by @letliveperiod in 2010) to see if he by any chance had even just the vocals somewhere and holy fucking SHIT it turns out he had THE ENTIRE RECORD on a hard drive. This is everything in its original form and it means I will be able to fully upgrade this record without losing anything in translation. I thought this was gone forever! Thank you @kitwaltersmusic for making what I thought might not be possible into a relative cake walk.
•
I’m gonna be doing a lot of work on the mix and retracking most if not all the guitars from scratch so I’m not quite sure when this will be completely finished but I just want to say thank you once again to everybody who still to this day will pop out of the woodwork to let me how much they enjoy and appreciate this album because it was truly a labor of love and still means the world to me. It occurs to me that for a page called “Chreeish Shreds” there’s not necessarily a whole lot of Chreeish shredding so I started going back through some old songs in my new mix template just for the laffs. This is the same song I played along to in the very first post on this page and it contains probably the best guitar riff I’ve ever come up with (feels like a pinball machine to me for some reason). I was feeling ballsy and warmed up so I left the audio I recorded while filming this in with the edited takes I was working on earlier. Enjoy!

“NOSTALGIC ECHO” Cover is now available for your enjoyment. YouTube link in bio 🤘

“Nostalgic Echo” by @intronaut_band (from their 2006 debut studio album “Void”) is is a longtime personal favorite and the song that made me an Intronaut fan many years ago when I was playing in a band with @dtimnick.
•
I have always wanted to try doing a cover of this and after what I felt was some successful experimentation with #ThallAmp and #OdeholmDrums on my previous Human Error track it came together pretty quickly.
•
I used stem splitting software to isolate the instruments and vocals from the studio version, then used the audio to MIDI converter in Pro Tools to create programmable drums from the studio performance that I did some light editing on.
•
All other sounds were recorded from scratch by me (guitar, bass vocals). It was particularly fun double tracking the low growls against the more midrange hardcore type screams, mimicking the layers both vocalists did on the original. I took one or two small liberties here and there but tried to stay as close as possible to the original vision - just wanted to get a bigger, punchier more modern sound across the board.
•
I’m playing my 27.5” @dunable_guitars Baritone Yeti, tuned (from high to low) C# (.013), G# (.018), E (.030), B (.044), F (.056), B (.072), through Thall Amp for the distorted guitars, and Neural DSP Plini for the clean guitars.
•
Like last time I am using a @buster.odeholm outboard gear tone match in FabFilter Pro-Q3 on my mix/master bus, as well as a second master tone match from “Fast Worms” also by Intronaut from their album “The Direction Of Last Things” which is in my opinion their best sounding record and helped me get this sounding like a good blend of my version and their specific sound.

Here’s a short edit for your casual amusement of a two and a half hour cello recording stream I did on Twitch the other day. Still really proud of how this song came out! Link to full song is in my bio. More videos coming soon thanks for your interest and attention. by @chreeishreds

My friend @notsimonjakobsson and I have had a very casual remote brainstorm music project going back and forth between the two of us for a couple years now. The only rule is that there are no rules. For me this just means having an excuse to try something that’s totally different from what I’m normally doing. This is a song he wrote on a Synthstrom Deluge and a Casio MT-600. The vocals are written and performed here by an extremely talented individual named @locuevasfilm. I played cello, retracked the bass, added some Serum synth layers, and did some light arrangement work before I mixed and mastered things. My wife came into the studio while I was finishing up and said “see this is something I would listen to” which I assume means it’s actually pretty good. At some point we will probably release a small EP or a few singles perhaps but in the meantime this one fell into place very quickly so I am sharing here for your amusement. There’s a link to the song on YouTube in my bio. Enjoy! by @chreeishreds

Every Saturday @yungskrrt produces beats with loops from subscribers - you have to win this funny marble game to make it on the queue and I won the marble game so he took a loop I recorded on cello earlier that day and turned it into a UK garage beat in like 30 minutes. I thought it would be cool to edit the session down into a few moments where he’s making the choices that shape the result since he’s so fast and makes decisions without overthinking stuff. I would never have thought to take a layer like this and turn it into what he did. You can check out the song on YT (🔗 in ☣️). If you spend hours and hours working on creative shit in isolation like I do I recommend getting on Twitch in general and when you do to check out his stream since he’s live almost every single night making shit tons of cool music and having fun. by @chreeishreds

“SOOTHSAYER” by THE GREAT WALL is in near existence mode…

Between this music video and a totally new mix/master of the self-titled LP with Dave Elitch and Thundercat I have been more active and determined to create with this project than I have in over a decade. Thanks for your patience and attention.
