Hey everyone, Chris here. It was an incredible homecoming for me, singing three sold out shows in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch, the city I grew up in. The support from the NZ public was phenomenal and the chance to spend time with my family over the free weekend was particularly special. They travelled from all over the country and we had the most wonderful time catching up with each other!
•
A poignant moment came when the six of us were given special permission to be inside ChristChurch Cathedral, something only possible after extensive strengthening since the devastating earthquakes in 2011. It was the first time for me stepping foot in that building since I’d moved to the UK in 2010 and I found the experience really disorienting, trying to figure out my bearings again. The damage after years of being open to the elements is shocking and kind of numbing. It’s hard to believe I spent some of the most formative years of my life in that building, which is barely recognisable from pre-earthquakes times. We sang MLK and it was very moving. I spent some extra time with the team at @chchcathedralreinstatement finding out more about the process of returning it to its former glory.
•
There’s a huge fundraising campaign that’s in place to raise the necessary funds for the rebuild. It will be an amazing occasion when the cathedral is reopened. It’s a place that’s dear to my heart after the fifteen years I spent singing there and I wouldn’t be a King’s Singer had it not been for that formative time I had as a chorister back in the 90s.

I’m now back in NZ after the Australian leg of the tour to see my brother Alastair, his wife Heather and my two beautiful nephews Charlie and James. I’ll catch up with some friends too in between Lego™️, story time and plenty of singing!

In ten days I’ll wing my way back to the UK to be reunited with Liz after what will have been nearly five weeks apart so that’ll be really special seeing her. And then it’s all go again for tours of Europe 😅 But for now, it’s time for some much-needed rest, relaxation and uncle duties! Take care ☺️ taken in New Zealand by @chris.bruerton

Brilliant, action-packed tour of five cities in six days! Wonderful concert halls, audiences, music-making, food, coffee, weather, beach time, ice cream, family, friends (old and new), memories to hang onto for a lifetime!
