***Today: World Lung Cancer Day***
As Nuria would say:
“Respirate la Vida!”
“Breathe in Life!”
I’ve been and remain a part of the lung cancer community.
I’ve met with (and lost) some of the most amazing, courageous, kind and supportive people.
People who promote and fight for better… even though it’s hard!
Though I’ve been through so much with Nuria, I see soooo many people and their loved ones struggling bravely and still making the most of their lives.
I’m always truly inspired by their incredible examples and will to live.
For all those we’ve lost, including my Nuria. And for all those who live each day truly…
Siempre en mi corazón!❤️💔🎗️ by @chris.startfromhappy

Day 30.5 Toronto
Started with a very yummy breakfast of a bacon, lettuce, tomato and egg sandwich made with love by my dear friend Nancy Nicola.
And we had our usual, wonderful life discussions. She really is like my big sister.
Then off to lunch with my good friend and lifesaver Nina Doiron. I say that because her organizing services helped my family (and Nuria and I) A LOT over the years!
We ate fantastic Turkish food at Aiyla Turkish Cuisine in Aurora. And of course we shared our stories with each other.
Later I attended a very informative Zoom call with Karen Sutton The Widow Coach about her new widow coach certification program.
And the rest of the day was spent chatting about life Nancy. And oh, she made a fantastic Spanish rice for dinner. So good! And no, it’s not paella!
It was a more relaxed day, and I kinda needed that. taken in Woodbridge, Ontario by @chris.startfromhappy

Day 22 Toronto
Not many photos today.
I spent some much needed Daddy-daughter time with Franciska today.
Being away for so many years has made me really appreciate that.
Then visited my very dear friends Melissa and Christian and their kids. It was great to get caught up with them.
Then a lovely meal with Rob and Suzanne Kapur.
Then off to spend the evening with dear friends Panos and Nick. It’s just been way too long.
Once again I’ve achieved my desire to reconnect with the people I love and miss in Canada. by @chris.startfromhappy

Day 15 Toronto
Starter my day with a coffee on the front stairs, enjoying the peace of the trees and birds chirping.
Had a fantastic lunch with very some old and very dear friends Mark Caiger and his dad Charles. We were in Scouts together a long time ago and Charles was my leader. We shared some really great experiences and stories. I enjoyed the reminiscing with them. They were such a big influence on my childhood.
We went to Il Fornello and I had a great pizza!
Afterwards I visited my old church St Elizabeth of Hungary on Sheppard Ave. I sat quietly in the pews by myself and my distant memories of decades gone by. I went every Sunday with my mother. I always loved the stained glass windows. Much more interesting than the sermons. lol.
Then went to So Hungry Hungarian deli across the street. We used to shop there regularly with my Mom. I showed the lady there a picture of my Mom and she was shocked to learn that she died. I brought home some lovely pastries too!
Then came home to a lovely meal with Lana and Mario De Meo. Then we went for a nice stroll through their neighborhood.
It was an awesome day for me. taken in Yonge and Finch by @chris.startfromhappy

Day 14 Toronto
Not many photos today, but many memories.
I woke up early and enjoyed my morning coffee staring out the backyard at some beautiful trees.
Later I hosted an online grief support group for my lung cancer community. We shared our stories, experiences and broken hearts, in our common losses. It was very meaningful for me.
Later I went for walk and saw the very first apartment building I ever rented in when I moved out of my parents’ home.
Then shared a lively dinner with my dear friends Lana and Mario De Meo and their daughter and her friend.
Then participated in a men’s widower online support group session hosted by my dear friend Greg Mais on behalf of Soaring Spirits International. We shared a lot of our thoughts and feelings there.
It’s been a very rewarding day for me. taken in Yonge and Finch by @chris.startfromhappy

I love the story of La Mora here in my town.

The legend takes place when the fortress of La Mota marked the border between the Muslim and Christian worlds. A young Muslim woman had a sick mother and needed water, so she went down to a fountain in the Christian area. There, she met a Christian captain who was captivated by her beauty. He allowed her to take water only if she removed her veil so he could see her face, and she agreed out of desperation.

After that, she returned every day, and the two gradually fell in love, even though their relationship was forbidden. When her father came back from war and discovered the romance, he forbade her from seeing the captain. However, she secretly went to meet him again.

When her father caught them together, he became furious and, rather than allow his daughter to be with a Christian, he killed her. She died in her lover’s arms, and her blood mixed with the water of the fountain.

Since then, the place has been known as the “Fountain of the Moorish Woman” (Fuente de la Mora), in memory of this tragic love story. taken in Alcalá la Real, Spain by @chris.startfromhappy

Attended a cosy Easter mass at a monastery in our town this morning.
The nuns were singing.
It was simple and beautiful.
And I ran into some dear friends I haven’t seen for a long time.😇❤️
