Sometimes forgiveness is the only way to close a chapter without carrying the pain into the next one.

Peace begins where resentment ends.

The problem is not the scars on his body, but the scars in his mind. The wounds on the body may heal with time. The wounds in the psyche may not.

The tragedy is not just this one child. It is that, as you read this, countless children across Nigeria are suffering hunger, neglect, abuse, rejection, and deprivation, some even in the very homes where they should feel safest.

Many adults walking among us today are survivors of such childhoods. Their physical wounds may have disappeared, but the broken psyche still bleeds.

That is part of the reason we live in a broken society today.

Our ancestors understood this. They saw the upbringing and protection of every child as the collective responsibility of the entire community.

This is also one reason why many European nations provide financial support to families raising children. They understand that investing in children today helps prevent social problems tomorrow.

Some of the criminals, drűg addicts, pr0stitutes, c0rrupt officials, violent offenders, and heartless leaders we condemn today were once wounded children crying for help that never came.

And many of the children enduring the same suffering today may become tomorrow's troubled adults.

A society that breaks its children should not be surprised when those children grow up and reflect that brokenness back to society.

If we want a better future, we must stop creating wounded children in the present.
The child you ignore today may become the crisis you confront tomorrow.

Chiziterem does not only need food, shelter, and money. He needs to be consciously reminded that he is a treasure to the world, that he is loved, that he matters, and that his life has value.

A child can survive physical hunger and still be destroyed by emotional starvation.
